Dear Newsletter Subscriber,

Today we have good news for you again:

eBlockerOS 4 in Internal Testing
We have been testing the new eBlockerOS 4 in our internal circle for about a week now. As we have replaced both the underlying operating system and many central components, we have to test this version very thoroughly. Among other things, we are checking the stability of eBlocker Mobile, the behavior of the new Squid under load and the correct operation of Tor with IPv6 as well as the stability of eBlockerOS in the long-term test.

Our goal is to make sure that everything works smoothly, even if this means that the testing process will take a few weeks. We will inform you about the progress in the next newsletter.

New Features for eBlockerOS 4
Although eBlockerOS 4 is largely functionally identical to eBlockerOS 3, we have updated all components to the latest versions to ensure the long-term security and stability of the overall system. Another important step was the complete redevelopment of the structure of the system images for various target platforms, which are now created automatically. This speeds up the creation process considerably and reduces manual effort in the future.

We have also completely redesigned and put into operation the system landscape in the background that is “invisible” to eBlockerOS users, such as the license server or the eBlocker DNS server. This means that these components are also safe for the future.

Goodbye “white cube”
As already announced, eBlockerOS 4 will unfortunately no longer support the ten-year-old “White Cube”. Switching to a Raspberry Pi is unavoidable in the medium term. However, there is no need to rush yet, as we are planning a simple migration option for all users after the eBlockerOS 4 release and will let you know in good time. But perhaps you are already thinking about which hardware suits you best? Then you will be interested in our benchmark:

Raspberry Pi Benchmark
Our tests have shown that the Raspberry Pi 4 reaches its limits with high-bandwidth Internet connections (500 Mbit/s and more). The new Raspberry Pi 5, on the other hand, offers significantly higher performance and can utilize practically the full bandwidth of a 1 Gbit/s network connection with eBlockerOS.
Here is a table showing the typical data throughput of the individual devices. The “White Cube” is referred to in the test by its board name “Banana PI M2+”.
Contributing makes you happy
eBlocker is a non-profit community project in which everyone can get involved. In particular, we are still looking for software developers (Java, AngularJS) as well as experienced testers who would like to help us find and fix the latest bugs. Are you interested? Then simply send us an informal e-mail to: voluntary@eblocker.org
