Hello Newsletter Subscriber,

welcome to our first English newsletter with an update about our progress at eBlocker Open Source.

Project started successfully in German community
As we are based in Germany and 70% of our community speaks German, we started our project in German first (website, newsletter). Over Christmas we were super happy to collect sufficient funds for getting the Open Source project off the ground. And now the English website is online so that we are ready to address the world ;-)

eBlocker source code becomes Open Source in a few days
Since the start early January we were very hardworking and achieved a lot. Currently we are still working on updating the open source apps used in eBlocker and "cleaning up" the code so that we can collaborate better with the community.
Unfortunately, we are still a very small team at the moment and had a major bug (in an ARM emulator) that threw us a bit behind schedule. Now we plan to release the code on GitHub at the end of next week (week 6). For those interested, we have already published a first overview of the architecture and the interaction of eBlocker components here: https://github.com/eblocker

New eBlocker images for Raspberry 4: end of February
Based on the published source code, we plan to release a new eBlockerOS image for Raspberry Pi 4 at the end of February, which is (theoretically) compatible with all Raspberry Pis (2GB RAM is recommended).

eBlocker.org, English website and administrative processes
As you may have seen, we have moved the website to www.eBlocker.org. We have implemented numerous technical improvements and also created the English website, which officially launched February 1st 2020.
In parallel, we have set up a new e-mail and newsletter infrastructure, completed all registrations with the authorities and contracted external service providers, e.g. for accounting. Using lean processes this is a good foundation to take proper account of the German bureaucracy.

Malware and parental controls filters are still missing: Please donate
Unfortunately, we have not yet received sufficient donations for licensing malware and parental controls filters. Therefore, the open source version is currently still behind the comprehensive protection of the previous commercial eBlocker 2.
If you want to protect yourself from malware or your children from unwanted content, we look forward to your donation. Only together we can help eBlocker to provide comprehensive protection for everyone again.

Non-profit and together for an Internet without data collectors and dangers
Finally, we want to emphasize again that we are not doing this for profit or unpredictable investors. We do not have permanent employees, offices or other high costs. Your donation will be used exclusively for the further development and funding of the project. For the benefit of all users!
If you would like to get involved, please contact us at voluntary@eBlocker.org. Besides tasks in software development, we need more publicity and help in spreading eBlocker.

Please spread the word and recommend eBlocker
Tell your friends that eBlocker Open Source exists and help others protect their privacy and children. Only together can we create an Internet without any worries and dangers again.

Many thanks & best wishes
Boris, Christian and the whole eBlocker Open Source Team
