eBlockerOS 2.8 released
In the night to November 11, 2021 we have released the new eBlockerOS 2.8 version. If your eBlocker receives automatic updates, this release is already active. This gives you immediate access to new features, we summarized below. Please find all technical details in the release notes and a detailed description of all new features in our blog.
Block video ads - thanks to extended content blocker
Originally we had planned to further improve the ad blocker features with eBlockerOS 3. Due to many requests from the community, we have now brought this forward and developed the Video Ads & Content Blocker. With this feature you can now block ads in videos (e.g. on YouTube) as well as so called "first party" ads (e.g. on Google Shopping)😁. This function still has beta status and therefore needs to be activated separately. Detailed instructions are given in the blog post.
Prevent fingerprinting - thanks to scriptlet technology
Now for the first time eBlockerOS 2.8 supports a large range of the so called "uBlock Scriptlets". Thanks to this new technology, not only video ads can be blocked, but also so-called "first party fingerprinting" is prevented. With fingerprinting, individual websites can generate a unique device ID - even without using cookies - and thus recognize you on subsequent visits. With the new scriptlet support, you are now even better protected from profiling through this invasive form of tracking. Scriptlets will become active only with the Video Ads & Content Blocker described above and are also still in beta status.
Configure eBlocker optimally - Thank you, doctor
Also new in this release is the eBlocker Doctor. The doctor supports beginners as well as experts with the optimal configuration of all devices. A big thanks to @mainzelM for his initiative, who deserves the doctor title for this 👨🎓😉. This feature is also still in beta status and the exact advice is only available in English for now. More on this in the blog as well.
Tip: Settings per device, per user or for all devices.
Most eBlocker settings (like domains allowed/blocked by the Personal Device Firewall) always affect one device individually. But you can easily change these settings for a group of devices with a trick: Just assign the devices of a group to one and the same user. This can be done via Settings>Devices> in the tab "Users". Additional users can be created at any time under "Parental Controls>in the tab User>New User".
