| | Dear Newsletter Subscriber,
Here are the latest updates from eBlocker:
Who is behind eBlocker? Close to 20 contributors drive eBlocker forward. A core group of about ten has been around for a while - others join, some move on. We are a dynamic team where everyone decides for themselves what to work on and how much time to invest.
Most of us are not full-time developers, but tech enthusiasts at heart. What unites us is a shared conviction: data minimisation is a matter of self-determination. We want less data collected about us. No ads that follow you across the web and learn what matters to you while you browse. No profile that grows silently in the background, only to influence your behaviour later.
We do all of this in our spare time, investing both time and money into the project because we enjoy it and believe in it. That is why some things take longer than we'd like. Quality always comes before quantity. Every new step goes through a thorough review process before it goes live. We deliberately use AI sparingly, relying instead on human expertise and care. It takes time but it ensures that eBlocker remains stable and provides real protection.
Upgrading from eBlockerOS 3 to eBlockerOS 4 Good progress: more than 30% of eBlocker users have already switched to version 4. Still hesitating? Our advice: now is the right time - provided you haven't set up a large number of custom settings or user profiles.
Many worry the switch will be complicated and time-consuming. In most cases, it takes just a few minutes. Your device settings on the home network, as well as your Tor and HTTPS settings, are all transferred automatically.
Simply create a backup on eBlockerOS 3, flash the new image, and restore the backup. Done.
The full backup and restore function is still a work in progress. We've made good progress but significantly underestimated the effort involved. VPN and eBlocker Mobile settings, as well as licence transfer, are now complete and currently being tested. Next up are the parental control, DNS, and blocker settings.
| The result will be a truly convenient solution - thanks to the patience of everyone involved. |
DI.DAY: Switching to Digital Alternatives eBlocker protects you from trackers that follow you from site to site. Which party you support, how much money you earn, what health topics interest you - all of this becomes visible through your browsing behaviour.
But what eBlocker cannot prevent is profile building by the platforms themselves. Facebook, Instagram, TikTok - they track everything you click, like, and post. If you want protection from that, you need to switch to alternatives.
This is where DI.DAY comes in. Digital Independence Day takes place on the first Sunday of every month - the next one is on June 7. The project offers concrete migration guides and step-by-step instructions: from alternative cloud services to privacy-friendly email providers and fair music streaming. Visit di.day to find out where you can switch.
Did you know eBlocker also protects your children? Many know eBlocker as protection against ads and tracking. That it also offers comprehensive parental controls is less well known.
Parents can block content and websites by category - centrally at the network level. This applies to all of a child's devices at once: smartphone, tablet, laptop. No device needs to be configured individually, eBlocker is hard to "work around", and children can't simply bypass time limits by switching devices.
The parental control lists are updated daily. In addition to the official list from the German Federal Centre for Child and Youth Media Protection, we use many other sources to provide comprehensive protection.
Whether you have young children or teenagers: eBlocker is the ideal solution for parents who want to keep their children safe online.
Our project lives on your support Prices are rising everywhere - including the costs for servers, hosting, and infrastructure. We want to keep eBlockerOS free for everyone and not pass on rising expenses. Without your donations, that is becoming increasingly difficult. If eBlockerOS and the protection of your data matter to you, please support us. Only together can we stay independent and keep eBlocker running.
Developing eBlocker further and protecting people from the unnoticed collection of their data will always remain close to our hearts.
