I have a question concerning the integrated firewall.

Can it be used as 'substitute', when the router gets no longer security patches? So you can further use the outdated router.

Or is it really necessary to replace the old with a new one or build a cascade of a new and the old router security because only this way fixes security vulnerabilities in the routers OS?

I am curious for your anwsers. Thanks in advance.

Denis

Hi Denis,

no it is not a replace for an unsecure Router. Because the Router is the first security border for your home network to the internet.

Look at this picture, where eBlocker is located:

So you have to replace your router ! 🖐️

Are you using a Mikrotik Router? 🤔

Which modell?

My whole network based on Mikrotik components 🙂

Thanks for your reply.

Your answer was also my favorite solution, but I was not 100% sure. I figured you’d better ask before I make any investments.

eBlocker protects your network clients not to access malicious sites (tracker, ad server, malware, etc.) So it blocks request from inside your LAN to the Internet.

eBlocker does not protect arbitrary traffic from outside and is not meant as a replacement for a firewall. A firewall blocks traffic from the Internet accessing your LAN. eBlocker does the opposite.

Conclusion: get a new router or a dedicated hardware firewall to protect you from outside attacks...
