Hello

All the best in the new year to everyone!

My question: Is it possible to use eBlocker mobile without "OpenVPN Connect" for Android / iOs and Windows devices? A VPN can be set up manually for all of the devices mentioned, which is why I would like to do without additional software.

Kind Regards

😊

@nutzername eBlocker generates an OpenVPN compliant config file for each eBlocker Mobile client. This file therefore contains client individual authentication information based on public/private keys made for OpenVPN clients.

To my knowledge most OS’s built-in VPNs are not compatible „out of the box“ with these config files, but there is a free OpenVPN client for all mobile devices. So that‘s the way to go 👍

THX!

Hi random

Yes, i can use a free OpenVPN client for this and I set it up that way yesterday too.

But there must be a way to use the built-in vpn functionality 🤔 ?

3 years ago I had a hide.me account that I could set up manually or with an additional OpenVPN client. I set it up manually.

i would love to use eblocker mobile without additional software.

Kind regards

😊

Your request is recognized. Thank you. 👍

Even if it may sounds simple to fulfill your request it's a major effort: We need to choose and implement a new VPN server (next to OpenVPN server) running on the eBlocker which is compatible with most of OSs and our own LinuxOS environment.

Honestly, I'm not even sure there is "one" solution that fits all OSs and how secure such a solution would be. Nevertheless, next to implementing the VPN server, this needs to be tested a lot (especially for security - and on all Raspi plus White Cube), the user interface needs to be significantly modified and everything needs to be documented in the knowledge base and in the eBlocker itself (in two languages).

For sure such an implementation will easily take one month full-time work and many helping hands. Today, we are happy if volunteers spend a few hours per month on the project, but such a commitment (and responsibility) is not very realistic today. Sorry for the bad news.

But you never know: Maybe some developer loves the idea and wants to tackle it. 😉

To sum up: OpenVPN is today's choice for high security VPNs, it runs on all OS and is fully tested with eBlocker Mobile (and also eBlocker VPN). A switch to a different VPN solution is very cost intensive and the gain for eBlocker users is rather poor.

Personally, I don't see another VPN solution for eBlocker Mobile coming up in the next years as we have a looong list of real improvements for helpful eBlocker features.

Hello Benne

Thank you for your detailed reply.
I thought and was hoping that the .ovpn file, in simple terms, contains everything I need for an installation with the "manufacturer" -vpn.

From your two answers I understand that this is unfortunately not that easy and also very time-consuming.

I'm happy to be able to continue to use eblocker, even if my bananapi blocker in the transparent housing from the first hour is now retired. unfortunately i can't be a helping hand, i'm not well versed for that
(oldshool tuning of a motor works without 0 and 1)

Kind regards 😊
