Bought myself a Samsung Series Q60 TV and try to change some settings with the SmartThings-app on my iPad. Did a number of recordings with HTTPS/Manual Recordings and saved the results to a new app-definition.
However, as long as i don’t switch Off eBlocker for my iPad, the iPad-app can’t communicate with the TV, notwithstanding the results of the recordings. When i exclude the iPad in the device-list, everything works fine.
Anybody similar experiences?
Rob
So it seems that the app is not only talking locally to your TV but also to outside services being blocked by eBlocker (probably). I conclude this out of the fact, that eBlocker does not touch local traffic at all.
Have you tried to prove this guess by disabling Internet access (pull the plug). So question is: what happens if eBlocker is disabled for TV and iPad but there is no Internet access?
One remark regarding your trusted app definition: you might need to record https on BOTH devices (TV and iPad) to make sure all https connections in questions can pass...
The recording of the iPad is shown in enclosed screenshot; a whole list of external sites. The recording of the TV-set (while using the SmartThings-app), shows only the site api.eu-west-1.aiv-delivery.net. None of the recorded sites IMHO looks suspicious.
However, to get it working i still have to disable the eBlocker for my iPad. Fortunately, it is only occasionally (if not rarely) that i use the SmartThings-app. So, i don’t worry to much about it and so should you 🙂

Just for the sake of the exercise:
- disabled eBlocker for the iPad
- disabled eBlocker for the Samsung TV
- disconnected the DSL-line (no Internet)
Tried to use the SmartThings-app on my iPad. Result: Zilsch. See enclosed picture “Can’t connect, please try again.”, in Dutch, of course 😉
But don’t worry, i seldom use this App.
