Hello @all,
I have 3 kids and use the eBlocker primary to protecting them. I have an older tablet and the Google Family is not working there. So I add it in an own eBlocker group and set on which times the internet connection is allowed and how long.
For surfing by a browser it works, but apps like youtube or games have outside the allowed time connection to the internet, too. Is it possible to be more restricted and allow the whole internet connection only in the configured time boxes?

I‘m not sure what you mean.
eBlocker stops the Internet connection for the whole device if time is up. This includes apps communication and online games.
Of course eBlocker can not block local videos or games that need no Internet 😉
@random I don't mean locally. E.g. this morning at 7 o'clock was my son looking videos on youtube. But the rules in eBlocker said that the internet is only allowed at 8 o'clock.
Now, it is 12:30, but the tablet has still internet connection and it is possible to look videos online on youtube. But the rules said, that it is only until 12 o'clock and after 13:30 allowed. 🙁
What did I wrong?
@djbepy You need to create user. Make sure user has kid role. Assign blocking / time restrictions to user. Add devices to user. Make sure you (the admin) is not logged in into the kids device (eBlocker shows username in dashboard). Then it should work... or it‘s a bug (which I doubt).
If you assigned multiple devices to kid, try to start with one device first.
Also: in your (admin/parents) dashboard you can disable the internet for a particular kid/device. Have you tried this?
@djbepy Can you disable IPv6 on the kids client and/or on the router? Maybe devices take IPv6 when IPv4 closes routing. Today eBlocker only handles IPv4. IPv6 ist partly finished but we don‘t have resources to complete at the moment. So best is to disable IPv6 in home net (which is a good idea for better privacy anyhow).
Are you using auto network or a fixed IP on the eBlocker?
You could also check to set eBlocher‘s IP as Gateway in your kids device manually. With IPv6 disabled this will work pretty sure...
@random: This device is so old, it doesn't know what IPv6 is. And IPv6 is not activated on the router.
I use DHCP on the router to distribute the IP addresses. But it gives normally every time the same IP address to the same device. And I've checked the IP on the device very often, cause I thought first, that it changed.
And I'm using auto network on the eBlocker.
Hi,
try this:
1. Parent Controls --> New User -- create User "kein Internet"
2. select User "kein Internet"
3. add devices
4. change daily usage to 0 hours 0 minutes
look at the image 🤔
i hope this is a solution, try and let me know...
regards
PIO78
@pio78 But if this will work, it means, this device has no internet connection anymore. And that is not, what my goal is. Or what is the goal of your suggested configuration?
Could it be, that the eBlocker has a bug if you combined time limitation and maximal usage? It is enough, that the "if else" conditions first look at maximal usage and if the limitation is not reached, it stopped looking for other conditions?
I will try by disabling the maximal usage and will look after 12 o'clock if the internet connection is still available.

Sure there could be a bug. It would be great if you could verify your thesis and cross check.
Is Internet blocking working at all? Can you disable kids device from Internet using your dashboard?
@random: No, that is not the issue. I checked at 13:25 the tablet --> youtube had still an internet connection.
@pio78: I will try it. Maybe, the issue is, that the eBlocker code saved 12 a.m. (midnight) instead of 12 p.m.
You might want to check eBlocker‘s system time anyway. Just reboot eBlocker and check events. Maybe that‘s the core issue?
@random: If the system time of the eBlocker is another time, then is the question why the tablet has an internet connection before 8 and after 12 o'clock. 🙁
I've created a new group, set only one-time slot for weekend and one for the rest of the week. I set maximal usage at one hour per day. I started the tablet this morning at 7:30 a.m. and it has an internet connection. 🙁
I disabled https and maximal usage and now, it works. The device has no internet connection anymore. I added the maximal usage again and the internet connection was back again, even it was before 8 o'clock. I disabled maximal usage again and after a couple of minutes was no internet connection available. I activated the https for this device again and after a couple of minutes was the internet connection back. So I disabled the https part again and after a couple of minutes was no internet connection available.
It seems, that there are 2 things:
- The combination of time border and maximal usage is not working together
- The using of 2 different time limits per phase is not working ( 9 - 16, no internet at 08:30 - 9-11:59 & 13:30 - 16:00, internet connection is available at 08:45)
- If the https part is activated, the connection is always there (I will double-check it again).
If the system time of the eBlocker is another time, then is the question why the tablet has an internet connection before 8 and after 12 o'clock
Coincidence?
It‘s difficult to impossible to help if you feel the suggestions given are not worth trying.
I just checked the thread and of the about 3-4 questions raised to you none got answered.
Sorry mate, I‘m giving up here and I‘m happy to pickup the topic again once we get the infos (based on facts, not based on believe).
THX.
@random: Thx for your effort.
I have to say, I have no idea, how I can check the system time of the eBlocker. I can only tell you, what I tried and what is the result. And this results based on facts, not on believing 😉
And be honest, if the eBlocker allowed the internet connection before 8 and after 12 without restarting the raspy (and this every day), the probability this time was changed by itself is very small and I can exclude coincidence.
And if I overlooked any questions, I'm sorry. What answers are you missing?
One remark: The system time on the eBlocker seems to be correct, cause in another group I set only one big time slot without setting maximal usage and on this device, the internet connection started at the time which was set (7 o'clock) / internet connection was blocked before.
So, it seems, there is bug by using the combination of time limit and maximal usage. And a bug by using more than one time period for the same slot.
And this is a fact, based on my tries 🙂
@djbepy The questions are all in the thread - repeating them again is not helpful from my perspective.
If you are sure it's a bug, please post exact step-by-step instructions to verify: under bugs and features here in the forum. Maybe some talented developer will pick it up an fix it... 😉

I have read all threads in my post and found no not answered questions. So, please tell me, which question is open. Perhaps, it will give me the missing sign to solve the issue without creating a bug ticket for it.
Also: in your (admin/parents) dashboard you can disable the internet for a particular kid/device. Have you tried this?

@djbepy Some of the open questions above.
It would be great not to conclude ("the time must be ok, since..") but rather to technically verify. So: "Yes I've checked the events and it reads the time XYZ".
Also, if members try to help investigating a certain config (like @pio78 did) it would be great to do so - and not start speculating...
We all love to help but we need facts and concrete answers to do so. Discussions and "believe" is less helpful.
And please remember: We are all volunteers not getting a dime for this. We are investing our "hobby time" to help you - or nail it down to a bug, that can be verified...
THX!

This was answered by me. pio misunderstand my question first. After reading my first post, he suggested another configuration and this is working for me.

I answered, that I have no idea how I can check it on the eBlocker.
Is Internet blocking working at all? Can you disable kids device from Internet using your dashboard?
It is working in general. If I used only one configuration per phase (and no maximal usage), the device has no internet connection. You are right, I don't answer it direct, it was more indirect by explaining was is the result of my tries.
Also: in your (admin/parents) dashboard you can disable the internet for a particular kid/device. Have you tried this?
You are right, I don't answered on this. I will try it tomorrow.
pio misunderstand my question first.
Sorry, but I guess this discussion is not taking us anywhere, if you rather feel like interpreting.
Pio wanted to check a certain config to nail down (with further questions) if it's a bug. If you think you are more clever and is not your cup of tea to answer clear questions, that's fine. But please then don't expect anyone to investigate this any further. From my side, I've said everything.
Pls. post the step by step instructions that show it's a bug an we take it from there...
THX!
PS: To answer your just raised question: Reboot with Settings>System>Reboot, Read time by going to Settings>System>Events. Time of reboot is shown.
@djbepy Sorry, I‘ve lost track in this conversation. Is there a reproducible bug (and if so how to reproduce it) or is the issue solved meanwhile?
@random: I think, you are a little bit pissed of and start reading only a part and not all. But hey, that's life.
After he sends a new suggestion, I tested it with this, and that seems to work. And that would you know, if you read all 😉
So, I tested the was with the dashboard and deactivate the internet connection. And it has no effect 🙁 On the dashboard of the tablet it is shown as offline and youtube has still an internet connection.
If you think you are more clever and is not your cup of tea to answer clear questions, that's fine.
Come on, that is not very helpful.
I posted here already a step by step instruction of my tests. But hey, I'm here to find the solution and not to blame someone. Maybe, some content was misunderstood based on translations (English not my native language).
So, let's keep calm. On some settings, youtube has no connection to the internet and on some it has. And that feels strange for me. My goal is not to find a bug, I will found the solution. If the result is, its a bug, then it makes me not happy.
@benne: For me, it feels like an issue. The result of my test is, that 2 time periods on the same "day" are not working. And that the maximal usage overrides the settings of the time periods.
So, I tested the manual deactivating of the internet connection on this device and it didn't work. In tablet dashboard, it is shown "offline" but youtube has still an internet connection. Very strange 🙁
@djbepy Is this just happening with youtube or can you reach other websites too, when you disable internet from parent‘s dashboard?
If so, eBlocker is probably not considered the gateway of that device. Try setting eBlocker‘s IP address as the gateway address of the child‘s device. Temporarily. Just for checking - we‘ll roll this back afterwards.
Now with having eBlocker set as gateway try disabling Internet from dashboard. If it still works it must be magic 😉 (or a mobile/non-WLAN connection eBlocker can‘t cover).
