Hi Guys,

IMHO you created a very good, useful and necessary vehicle to fight the nasties of internet-use. A strong locomotive with lots op options, settings, goodies etc.!

Since i have an eBlocker at my disposal, i'm trying to figure out the BLOCKER-section. Because, again IMHO, your locomotive is of no value if it doesn't get the cargo to do its work properly and, in fairness, i have to admit that the BLOCKER-section is driving me nuts.

Not only  must(?) i decide for every device to go for 'Automatic' and/or opt for HTTPS or not, in the next step i get lost in a forest of lists available on the net with their own URLs, format and meaning and decide for each list where to include it and why.

Therefore i would recommend a 'bill of lading'; a tool/database for users as, when and how to use various lists with recommendations from the eBlocker-team and/or forum-members. It could have the simple format as in the enclosed documents.

Looking forward to a positive response.

Regards, Rob

Hello,

on that part I can help you. 😉

I written a post over at MalwareTips.com about privacy blockers and current block lists. ===> https://malwaretips.com/threads/privacy-blockers-application-os-lists.97289/

Sincerely

Eli.

Nice one! Good job.

Next to the swiss knife of blocking, I like eBlocker’s routing via VPN & Tor most.

Tor on iPad and no trackers, no ads = Yay!

In all sections for Domain- and Pattern-blockers for Ads, Trackers and Malware there are lists  with “This list has been created by the eBlocker“. To find out what sort of lists these are and to avoid double entries, where can information about these lists be found?

Lists contents were business secrets unfortunately, as we may not disclose licensed list contents for example. (Otherwise licensor would sell his list only once - and everyone copies freely).

Thats why one goal of this project is to license all commercial lists with same partners - or find even better ones. We probably can list license partners - but no contents I fear.

Actually we are not happy with this situation as we are all about transparency - but it‘s a legal issue we can not bend. Worse: maybe partners may not license lists to us anymore if people start to disassemble...

eBlocker „normalizes“ all lists, so double entries don‘t hurt as far as I know.

@random: well said. I agree completely.

@all: It’s all about trust. We want to build trust by opening this process and are looking for list maintainers in the community.

But commercial lists will always stay a secret I guess. Thats their business model...

Hallo Benne,

I understand what you say, but may i then ask the question in another way. If you would apply ONLY the commercial lists, would you then say that you and your family is adequate protected when using an eBlocker with those settings?

As there is no 100% security there is no 100% privacy protection, unfortunately.

Thats why we felt (at business times) a mix of vendors that are focussing on a particular fields (i.e. malware, parental controls, etc) plus publicly available lists gets the best coverage. And yes, this MIX of lists gives the best protection I guess but not a single provider.

I‘d be very happy to welcome you in the supporters team to take the hat for leading this topic. We are still looking for someone to mange the lists and vendors... But of course this is a team effort - and we need the mix of different people and opinions here too.

Thank you for the offer Benne, but i don’t think i’m the guy to do this. Although i have been a strong supporter of eBlocker and keeping the ‘bad guys’ out right from the beginning, i am 75 and don’t have any (specific) knowledge about lists and what they stand for.

During the last 15 years of my professional life i was venture capitalist and if that experience can be helpful you are invited to call upon it, but we better leave those lists to the younger ‘eager beavers’.
