I've exactly the same issue, but not only on Apple devices only. Same on Win devices. I'm using the eBlocker on a Raspberry Pi 4 4GB. This eBlocker behavior started right after the update to 2.5.8.
Prior update no issues on HTTPS filtering at all.
Also reinstalled the HTTPS certificate on all devices, rebooted the eBlocker, all (Apple, Win) devices again signed in, but no improvement. Attached file as an example of the situation for all devices.
However, eBlocker seems to work properly. Trackers and ads are blocked on web sites.
Any changes in settings after the update, that I missed? To me it seems to be a bug.
THX
BonyCB
@bonycb Do you see the eBlocker icon on HTTPS sites?
Actually there was a bug in displaying the right HTTPS status in the dashboard, which should have been fixed in 2.5.8. 🤔
As far as I remember @Rob fixed it with a factory reset...
THX!
Nope, you are referring to an exclamation mark for the DNS Firewall. This problem has gone indeed, but the issue with Web filtering (HTTPS) is new.
By the way, i checked my iMac with OS X 10.11.6 and it shows an exclamation mark for Web filtering (HTTPS) as well.
@robfranssen-fr Ok. THX! This shows https is working but just the test is broken (in Safari I suppose?). So no need to worry.
Have you tried other browsers / OS, as this is a browser dependent bug (Win10, FireFox works fine; also iOS 13.7, Safari works)
THX!
@random Is this what you mean?
First picture Dashboard in FireFox
Second picture same website https://wwwvd.nl
Is this what you mean?
I‘m talking about the subject of this thread. „Https exclamation mark“.
The question is: in which browsers do you see the exclamation mark (when running the test). AND if sou see the icon in the same browser on https sites. If the icon is shown t it proofs that https is working correctly but just the self test returns wrong results...
THX!
I see both the icon AND the exclamation mark on my iPad in BOTH Safari and in FireFox. Looks like the selftest got it wrong then in both browsers.
@robfranssen-fr Which OS (and version) did you use for the browser tests? (You talked about macOS and iOS - so I'm confused - and we need to be clear to reproduce the issue).
THX!
iPad 5th Gen. iPadOS 14.2, see my first post in this subject (2/12/2020 5:06 pm)
iMac with OS X 10.11.6, see my second post in this subject (2/12/2020 9:41 pm)
Rob
@robfranssen-fr So all the issues you have posted (cloaking element disappearing from dashboard, Google ads in iOS app) have one clear source: HTTPS is not enabled properly on your iPad. Your issues
- The "cloaking element" in the dashboard is not shown if HTTPS is not enabled (for the device)! (BTW: This is not a bug, but a feature as cloaking does not work without HTTPS support)
- Google Ads are not blocked if HTTPS is not enabled (for a device).
The icon you've on the screenshot above might come from cache (and a time where HTTPS was enabled properly for the device). Also the HTTPS test on my devices (PC, iOS) all work properly in all browsers. Please clear browser cache and retry the above's screenshot.
I remember you did a factory reset once. After this you have to reinstall the (new) eBlocker root certificate in all clients again. I fear this is the cause of all your issues.
Please use the HTTPS wizard to reinstall the certificate on one of the affected devices first. (on iOS make sure not to forget to grant root privileges iOS Settings>General>Info - scroll down to last item "Certificate trust settings" and select menu. Then grant root access also to the new eBlocker certificate). All issues will be gone...
THX!
I began my first remarks with “removed, reinstalled and approved eBlocker-certificate”.
IMHO this is the same as “reinstall the certificate on one of the affected devices first. (on iOS make sure not to forget to grant root privileges iOS Settings>General>Info - scroll down to last item "Certificate trust settings" and select menu. Then grant root access also to the new eBlocker certificate)”
Rob
@bonycb Please see my post above. I'm pretty sure the certificate is not installed properly (and granted root privileges) as well.
The HTTPS test works fine! If it shows an exclamation mark please double check certificate installation.
THX!
@robfranssen-fr Buddy, PLEASE! The problem is the certificate OR that HTTPS is not enabled for the particular device. To quote you "take it or leave it". I'm not going to answer any more of your posts until you take the time to double check. Sorry, but the issue is in front of the screen!
THX!
I understand what you are saying: No HTTPS, nu fun! 🙂
Rest assured that i’m very ‘HTTPS-aware’ and i know that in particular Pattern blocking is not working. I therefore check my Dashboard very regularly to make sure that i don’t go on the web without proper protection. I know that this statement doesn’t help to solve the problems, but there it is, i can’t do better.
It is possible that the browser cache is playing games with me and showing ‘the wrong dashboard’. Having said that, the question arrises on how far one should go in ones efforts to make proper use of the eBlocker and get the protection it claims to provide?
@robfranssen-fr eBlocker is plug & play. You set it up once and you forget about it.
My impression is, you like to play: You plugin eBlocker in the WAN port "as an exercise", you add various blocker lists (for your Google / FB aversion), you tweak all parameters there are - not knowing what you really do. And yes, then support and usage of eBlocker becomes no fun.
Go with the standard install if you are a tech novice leave everything untouched!
Again this whole topic is nonsense and a waste of time, as the "exclamation mark" disappeared after 15 sec of wait, right!
So, Rob: PATIENCE is key and not to stir in every corner you find and post topics you are can not reproduce. THEN you enjoy eBlocker. And speaking for myself: I enjoy eBlocker for years and helping in support. BUT our conversations are NO FUN.
THX!
@robfranssen-fr We found the source of error for the test failure: If you manually add "eblocker.org" to the trusted websites, the test fails. That's probably what you did as well - not really knowing what you are doing (see above 😉).
So cure is easy: just remove "eBlocker.org" from the trusted websites and test runs well.
In a future version we'll block the manual adding of our domain to not have other users stumble across this.
THX!
Strange. Not the normal behavior for me. 🤔
Which URL do you enter before you get the message in the screenshot?
Do you have additional blocker lists (next to the eBlocker provided) enabled? Then please disable for a test.
Please make sure Advanced blocking looks like this (especially the Referrer settings might be worth looking).
THX!
To answer your next question, i opened https://eblocker.org/community/bugs-features/how-to-get-rid-of-google-ads/ where you can find all my actual settings and were i got this message as well. But to answer your first question, no other lists added, none what-so-ever.
And for your third question...
Looks very much the same, doesn't it?
@randon
As you can see from the message-screenshot, the message appeared on a Mac and the only Mac i'm using is the iMac with Big Sur. Tried to reproduce the event, but (unfortunately?) did not succeed.
As soon as i reappears i'l let you know.
Rob
@randon
I received an email telling me that there was a new message about “How to get rid of Google ads”. So, while reading the message on my iPad, i ticked the link.
And there it was again, this time on my iPad
Checking my pictures, i discovered that the first instance was from my iPad as well (check the time in upper left corner of the pictures)
Sorry for the confusion, but of course i would like to know why i get the message.
But not urgent, not important.

This time on my iMac.
In Mail i clicked on the link in the message about 'How to get rid of Google'(I'l answer that one in a minute). Again, i got a screen telling me that a Tracking Link was detected.
To let you know that a solution was found for the ‘How to get rid of Google xxx’, i opened Safari on my iPad, tried to open the address https://eblocker.org/login/ to login. eBlocker informed that a tracking link was detected and only after i disabled eBlocker for the iPad i could login and write my answer. Can’t help it 🙁
Tried to login again. This time eBlocker, while being enabled, didn’t give a squeak!
After flushing Safari i tried again. No problem. So, everything works fine. I’ll keep quiet and will not tough anything ’eBlocker’. Please forget my existence. Have a nice day.
Rob
@robfranssen-fr We are happy having you, seriously. You have pointed us to improvements in UI and tech no one else had found before.
So don‘t lose patience and keep up the good feedback.
THX!
Thumbs up! 😀
But one last (?) question. Since everything is going smooth and easy on both my iPad and my iMac, i had a closer look at my iPhone. I removed AdGuard Pro (yes!) and got eBlocker Mobile working. Now Dashboard/Status/Test on the iPhone are all green, except ‘Device is monitored’. A cosmetic error? Can it be corrected?
@robfranssen-fr Good call!
I can easily reproduce the issue by enabling eBlocker Mobile on iPad in WLAN also:
Seems to be a test/display bug. At least eBlocker Mobile runs just fine for me 🤔
@bpr any idea?
THX!
Exclamation mark for "Device is monitored" is still there on my iPhone with iOS 14.4.1 and eOS 2.6.2
Just to let you know, Rob
PS But only (!) as long as eBlocker Mobile is engaged with the OpenVPN-app.
(configuration-file for OpenVPN downloaded from eBlocker with eOS 2.6.2)
But only (!) as long as eBlocker Mobile is engaged with the OpenVPN-app.
Yes, that's a known feature and can not be avoided. All tests need to run without eBlocker Mobile / VPN / Tor enabled - to show correct results.
THX!
@random Back from been away.
eBlocker Mobile disabled
No (other) VPN
Rebooted iPad with iOS 14.4.2
Rebooted eBlocker with eOS 2.6.2
Web filtering (HTTPS) exclamation mark is back again... no clue why.
Rob
PS Also visible on MacBook with OS X 10.11.6 and on iMac with Big Sur
@robfranssen-fr eblocker.org/.com on (https) whitelist?
THX!
Oh sh..ips, true and has been removed.
On the other hand, replying to this forum without eblocker.org in the whitelist is a pain...
@robfranssen-fr Now this is solved (again), let‘s see what your issue with the forum is.
Would you please open a new thread describing the forum issue in detail and your particular setup. There is no issue with the forum if eblocker.org is not whitelisted and it can surely be fixed for you too.
THX!
Your question isn’t as easy as you may have thought.
I’m typing this on my iPad with iPadOS 14.4.2 in the Safari-browser while i’m already logged in into this forum.
After scrolling to the top of this thread/page, then go one level up to “eBlocker Open Source Forum” and hit the button “Add topic” there, i arrive at the login-page ‘ https://eblocker.org/login/’. So, for the time being, no new topic.
In identical situations before (and with eblocker.org still in the whitelist), it happened more often that i couldn’t ‘Add Reply’ because the server could not be found. I then ended up with an empty page and could retype the message. (recently i copy the message to make sure i could paste it in case needed). It is rather unlikely that i can reproduce such a situation and therefore suggest not to invest much time in it for the time being.
Rob
(copied and hopefully no need for a paste)

This is a know caching issue of our website (and has nothing to do with eBlocker and Whitelists!).
Just clear your browser cache after login by holding SHIFT and clicking the Reload icon of your browser. On iPad just reload the page after login and Safari should get the fact that you are logged in... Sorry for the inconvenience but again: putting eBlocker.org on the whitelist is not helpful and will rather cause problems with the self test (as eBlocker.org is exempted then and the test must fail!)
