Ever since I updated my white cube eblocker to the open source version (current version 2.5.8) my mobile configuration will not consistently work.  It works for a while if I disable/re-enable but stops.  If I again disable/re-enable it will work for a while again.

I've already destroyed the configuration, including on my router.  I still have the same problem.  Anyone else see this issue and has anyone found a solution?

mobile configuration will not consistently work

I‘m not sure what you mean by this. Please try to describe more in detail...

If it means that your VPN connection is interrupted and not automatically reconnected, you might want to check this out:  https://eblocker.github.io/help/en-us/360013334693.html

Probably you just need to enable monitoring the VPN connection... maybe this setting got lost/reset during the 2.5 update?

THX!

@random I mean that when I attempt to connect using openvpn via my mobile device it fails.  If I disable/re-enable it will work for a while.  Not completely clear how long but it's not over 24 hours.

I'm not having an issue with the openvpn client or it's configuration.  When it's working it works as it always has.  The issue is that on the blocker device side it won't continue to work enough though the configuration has not changed.  Again, the way I get it to work again is to disable/re-enable via settings->eblocker mobile.

@jbrunerwa2 Just to sum up, so I get it clearly

  1. You‘ve successfully set up eBlocker Mobile.
  2. When you connect your mobile device it stays connected for <24h
  3. Somewhen eBlocker Mobile stops working / the connection to your eBlocker gets interrupted. Can you reenabled connection via the OpenVPN app? Please share OpenVPN log (on iOS click icon in upper right corner).
  4. On your eBlocker you go to Setings>Mobile and switch off and back on mobile function. Then you are able to reestablish the connection. What‘s the status of the switch initially (off or on)?

Please correct if I got something wrong, answer the question above and share all infos from README (under Announcements).

THX!

Hi,

use eBlocker Mobile all the day.

With my Raspberry PI4 I have no problem with eBlocker version 2.5.8 .

In an earlier version I had this problem, but it disappears.

regards

@random

Requested REAME information

  • Hardware you use for running eBlockerOS - White cube (not sure what else to identify it by)
  • eBlockerOS version as well as filter lists version - OS 2.5.8 & not sure what a filter list “version” is but they have all been updated as of Dec. 7th at ~12:16am PT.
  • eBlocker network mode (auto, individual or expert) - Auto
  • eBlocker network settings (IP, mask, gateway) - 192.168.7.148, 255.255.255.0, 192.168.7.1
  • eBlocker DNS firewall settings - "Use eBlocker as DNS server" is on, Default is selected.
  • Client network settings (IP, mask, DNS, gateway) - N/A since the device won’t be on my local network
  • Whether eBlocker’s https integration is enabled for client - Yes, but I’ve tried it without having it enabled as well.
  • Client browser and OS version (i.e. FireFox 80.1 running on macOS 13.4) - iOS 14.2
  • Exact way or a link / screenshot to reproduce the issue - Given
  • If VPN or Tor is enabled for the client in eBlocker (and which VPN provider you are using) - No provide involved.  Using OpenVPN V3.2.2 (3507)

Updates to your points:

3. It's not that I lose the connection.  I turn it off because I'm home or have another reason to no longer have it enabled. Log entries with failure and successful connection below.

4. When I go back into settings->eblocker mobile the switch will still be set to 'eblocker mobile on' (green).

OpenVPN log seems to indicate there is a DDNS issue.  In my eBlocker Mobile configuration my 'external address type' is set to 'eBlocker Dynamic DNS' in case this information is needed.

Successful and failure log entries below (couldn't attach as .pdf or .txt)

@jbrunerwa2 Thanks for the good feedback. I took the freedom to attach your logs as files. BTW: Did you try to add the logs with ".txt" suffix and via "Attach Files" function? We've improved the upload function over the weekend and I wonder if there is an "access rights" bug taking place. As admin I added them with a click of a button. 🤔

Nevertheless, have you tried using a different DynDNS provider as the error might be related to our dyndns that's still in alpha testing? I'm successfully using this free German service for instance: https://www.securepoint.de/en/products/nextgen-utm-firewalls/securepoint-dyndns.html - you need to add this service to your router to work (usually there is a DynDNS section in your router's config).

THX!

@random I initially tried to attach the file with a ".pdf" extension and then with a ".txt" extension both times I clicked on the "Attach Files" link next to the paperclip.  Checked today and I'm now able to attached a ".pdf" document (removed since it was just for testing).

Yes, It does appear that DDNS is probably the root cause.  Not sure why it started around the same time as switching to open source OS but it's likely not related.   For reference it has been working flawlessly until recently.   Thanks for the help in troubleshooting.  I'll trying a different DDNS provider and will comment back on this thread with the results.

@jbrunerwa2 Since you‘ve mentioned the VPN interrupts firstly (~five days ago) I‘ve enabled eBlocker Mobile. No interrupts so far. But I wasn‘t traveling and connection was made in my WLAN (but tech is the same).

So I conclude it‘s not directly related to eBlocker but rather some „external“ issue. I‘m using OpenVPN on iOS, eOS 2.5.8 on Raspi 4 4GB and dyndns via the server mentioned above.

THX!

@random I agree it does appear to be external to eBlocker.  Pretty sure the failures are DDNS related. I think the disable/re-enable is causing the keep-alive to refresh which causing eBlocker Mobile to work until the caused keep-alive event expires.

Oddly, since last week eBlocker mobile has been working!? I haven't completed the change to moving to another DDNS provider.  I'll continue to get the new provider setup and will make the switch if I have the problem return.

Thank you for the assistance in figuring this out.

BTW, the date on these forum entries are showing up as being in the middle of Sept.  which is kind of odd??

@jbrunerwa2 Date is dd/mm/yyyy - so it‘s all good (but maybe „lost in translation“ between all the different international date formats). 🤪🤔😉

@jbrunerwa2 Just wanted to circle back if you could solve the issue by using a different DDNS provider meanwhile?
