Hello,

I was trying to create a new child profile for my son.

I activated forbidden categories but unfortunately some seem not to be recognized.

I created a new own blacklist with just one domain "pronhub.com" to test, if it is working. but with my child´s account I still can browse this URL. Also in the blacklists page, the moseover still says "no user assigned" (translated from german interface).

Is this a known issue with version 2.4.5 (the last official release)? and is there a workaround? I am not afraid to do my setups by ssh if necessary, but I am really interested to get it working.

Thank you for your support.

Jox

You can switch the interface to English (Einstellungen>System).

The concept is: add a user first. Then assign devices used by user. Then define blacklists. Then enable blacklists for the particular user. Once user uses "his" device the blacklisted URLs are not accessible.

Make also sure you assign a Child role to your kid, and a Parent role to you.

Today it seem's your blacklist is not assigned to any user - and therefore it's not used for blocking at all.

yes, so I think I did everything fine 😉

But unfortunately it seems not to be recognized correctky. The blacklist is not recognized when surfing in the internet. It seems that some are and some not.

Could you please be more clear what‘s not being blocked. Your list or eBlocker lists?

Please post exact URLs and blocking results as well as your expectations. Step by step to reproduce.

Make sure you are not accidentally logged into eBlocker using the kid‘s device...

The feature generally works just fine and we never had issues. It‘s usually about the list‘s contents or a config. mistake...

Hi, in while i did a factory restore on the eBlocker to be sure, I didn´t configure anything wrong in the past.

So what did I do?

- I created a ne child profile

- I checked "Acces to the follwong categories is restricted"

- I checked all categories except "music"

- I allowd exception from "FragFinn"

Then I assigned one device to the profile.

The first thing I recognized is that when I switch to the register "Blacklists" ( http://myeblocker:3000/settings/#!/parentalcontrol/blacklists/ ) the category "pornography" is not red/orange but grey. So it looks like this category isn´t in use.

I switch to my child´s device and open a browser. I try to open pornhub.com and youporn.com as examples for pornography sites. Unfortunately both are not blocked and loading.

So it seems that the setup is not working well or the blacklist is not containing URL´s I would expect?

Any suggestion would be very appreciated!

Children are not allowed to test the eblocker function.

Edit: I changed to parent account and did the test on the device. DNS Firewall test fails.
But with my parents account on another device the eblocker function test passes. When I then active the child on that other device I come across the same problem.

Edit: Or might it be a problem with my FritzBox 7590? https://www.eblocker.com/de/kompatibilitaetsinformationen-hardware/#note1

Hi @joxwayne,

it might be a DNS cache problem. When you switch the account on a device, can you activate airplane mode for a few seconds? That should clear the DNS cache on the device.

The footnote 1) on the compatibility page just means that you can not use Fritzbox' own parental controls when eBlocker is active for a device.

By the way: the icon colors on the settings tab "Web Site Blacklists" are not correct on my eBlocker, either. I think this is a bug. I will look into it. But the DNS blocking itself works on my eBlocker, even for categories that are shown with a gray icon.

Hello Boris, thank you for the reply. That was helpful for me.

By the way I didn't ever think about it, but what should be the gateway and DNS on such a device? The fritzbox or the eblocker?

@joxwayne eBlocker should always be the gateway and it will handle DNS if enabled. No need to change your config if everything works after the cache purge.

Thank you all for your support. I got it solved by setting my DNS server in the FritzBox to the eblocker's IP manuallly.

Now everything is working fine!

Topic solved for me.

Thanks to all!
