Could somebody please let me know the thinking behind the choice to call the DNS-setting in eBlocker’s Settings a “Firewall”? And isn’t it a bit confusing?
Rob
A firewall usually blocks malicious network traffic in general. eBlocker specifically blocks traffic (trackers/ads/etc.) that are called/requested from inside your LAN (typically as part of a webpage).
One(!) of the technologies that eBlocker can use to block these request is DNS (Domain Name System). That‘s why it‘s called a DNS firewall (=traffic blocking based on DNS requests). But I‘m with you: this industry term is not much known in public and can sound confusing.
Hope this helped a little to clear skies.
THX!
I started from the assumption that users of eBlocker know what DNS servers are and what a Firewall is. I therefore would have guessed that “DNS servers” would be more adequate. But... what’s in a name, “DNS Firewall” is fine withe me 😉

@robfranssen-fr If you want to get deeper into the DNS FW matter, this is a good article (in German though): https://www.heise.de/security/artikel/Was-man-ueber-DNS-als-Sicherheits-Werkzeug-wissen-muss-4085947.html
