This is to let everyone know we have changed the "Google Trusted App". Everyone who enabled the centrally provided Trusted App (and has not changed it) receives the update tonight.

With this change all YouTube related domains have been removed from the app. They can now be found in the "YouTube" Trusted App. This "YouTube" App is disabled by default.

This change was necessary to provide ad-free videos by default (without the need to change the Google Trusted App as discussed here) once the YouTube Ad Blocker is activated.

Hello 🙂

I have now reset (enabled) the google exception to factory settings accordingly and disabled the new YouTube exception for it.
Unfortunately, I have noticed a problem with the YouTube app on Android: The preview of the respective video is no longer displayed correctly.
To avoid this, I had to remove the following entry from the YouTube exception and put it into the Google exception:

  • i.ytimg.com

With this, the preview images are displayed correctly again.

I am not 100% sure yet if the video preview depends on the following exception:

  • s.youtube.com

The video preview starts the video as a kind of preview with subtitles within the app, but I could not yet understand this behavior with 100% certainty. So I don't know yet if it really depends on this one exception above.

I must correct myself.
s.youtube.com has nothing to do with it.
i.ytimg.com is enough to see preview images within the youtube app.

The Youtube App is not supported by the uBlock filters. You have the choice to either

  1. Enable the eBlocker pre-defined Trusted App for Youtube and enjoy the YouTube App with ads.
  2. Disable the Youtube Trusted App and enjoy ad-free videos in your browser after enabling the uBlock filters.

Maybe we did not make this clear enough? 🤔

Both options can not be combined. The choice is yours.

THX!

For me, the YouTube app on Android runs perfectly fine (without ads) with the following settings of the original filters (with minor changes):

Google (Books, Drive, Mail, Movie, Store, Blog) (Enabled)

  • google.pl
  • google.pt
  • google.ro
  • google.ru
  • google.se
  • googleapis.com
  • googledrive.com
  • googlemaps.com
  • googlevideo.com
  • gstatic.com
  • gvt1.com
  • gvt2.com
  • gvt3.com
  • i.ytimg.com
  • play-lh.googleusercontent.com

YouTube (Disabled)

  • youtube.com
  • youtube.de
  • youtubegaming.com

I invite everyone to test these settings for themselves and give me their feedback.

...and I can see YouTube Videos in my Webbrowser without Ads without enable or disable anything else.

The tradeoff one has to make is either use the Youtube App (on Android) or rather use Auto Trust App (ATA) to avoid compatibility issues with other native apps (using certificate pinning).

If you chose not to use ATA that‘s a very personal decision. Generally we recommend not to use the YouTube App and leave ATA enabled.

Unless we (@mainzelM 😉) find a solution Youtube domains don‘t get added to ATA if the YouTube App is used, we stick to this general recommendation.

Personally, I see only disadvantages using the native YouTube App - also due to tracking tricks the app performs, which can be eliminated by using YouTube in a browser.

Nevertheless, we might need to further fine tune the Google Trusted App in future according to your findings. I hope for feedback from other (Android) users, as I don‘t use any Google products and personally can‘t verify…

@jogi Hi jogi,

have you activated the Auto Trust app?
I have applied the settings from you and my YouTube (Vanced) is running as well as the mobile view of the YouTube website (eBlocker logo shows up).
But when I use the PC/Laptop (HTTPS enabled) no eBlocker logo shows up and the ads are displayed.
My guess is that the Youtube website was added via Auto Trust.

Best thanks and greetings

@qp1808:

My ATA is disabled, I'm not a developer.

My guess is that the Youtube website was added via Auto Trust.

You can verify your guess by Settings>HTTPS>Trusted Websites - in the search field type „youtube“.

If an entry (ie. from Auto Trust App) appears, you can delete it individually (via tab Trusted Apps>Auto Trust App - select Edit and select entries to delete). There is no need to disable ATA.

Regarding the Youtube App, @benne explain the choices. In case you have little tech knowledge, I would strongly recommend not to use the Youtube App and rather leave ATA enabled.

THX!

@random

Hi,
thank you very much for your message.
Under Settings>HTTPS>Trusted Websites there is no entry from Youtube.
Unfortunately, I can't delete individual entries in the Auto Trust app.
Tried it in both enabled and disabled mode of ATA.
Happy 4th Advent to all.

Best regards

P.S.

I have just reset the ATA app.
Unfortunately I still have no eBlocker logo in the browser when I am on the Youtube website with my laptop (HTTPS enabled and test successful).

Unfortunately, I can't delete individual entries in the Auto Trust app.

If the Auto Trust App is empty (as shown in your screenshots) there is nothing to delete. Otherwise it just works fine the way you have chosen.

Regarding your individual issue with YouTube, please open a new thread (this here is an announcement thread) and provide all info from the readme to get focussed help.

THX!
