Hello,

The WireGuard protocol is now also used for VPN.
A corresponding addition in eBlocker would be helpful.

I highly support the wireguard initiative. The Pi with maximal memory and proc, I can get only 100MBit/s max with VPN switched on. Using different VPN providers and ensuring without eblocker in the line I can get 400MBit/s with the VPNs, even with OpenVPN

Due to the framework conditions at the time, I then selected a reputable and reliable VPN provider that supports OpenVPN after sufficient research.
This worked well for years. Unfortunately, the provider has now announced the end of its OpenVPN support in order to concentrate on Wireguard.
Is there a plan to support Wireguard in future eBlocker versions? - If not, I would be looking at the VPN provider selection again next year.

@joe I can personally recommend Proton VPN - supporting OVPN.

I agree Wireguard support would be a nice addition. But unless someone from the community steps up to implement it, I fear Wireguard wont happen anytime soon as we are lacking resources with the core team already.

THX!

Hi,
As part of the next subscription renewals, VPN services are also on the agenda for me again.
In this context then also the use of WireGuard as protocol.
Is this intended for the eBlocker ? I have not read any information about this in the roadmap.
If not - how expensive is the integration of this protocol into the eBlocker software ? How much Euros would I have to collect for this ?
Unfortunately I have no clue in this environment and would be grateful for some explanations 🙂

@joe As all relevant VPN providers are offering OpenVPN today, we have no priority set for Wireguard yet. We feel it wouldn't increase security nor compatibility much. I a brief discussion I had with @bpr and @benne a while ago we felt other improvements need to come first.

Please check out the current roadmap for eBlocker 3 here: https://eblocker.org/en/magazine/eblockeros-3-planning/

But maybe some talented developer wants to join and implement Wireguard protocol or even a freelancer who put's a price tag on this? You are very welcome and we are happy to add another donation goal then.

THX!

@joe

I'm curious: are there VPN providers that support WireGuard but not OpenVPN?

@Boris Prinz

if you use Blokada Plus, you get VPN access for 5 devices. These VPN accesses can be used without the Blokada app according to the description on other platforms only with WireGuard app. Will then probably a bit too complex

Hi random,
thank you very much for the quick reply.
I had asked because one of my desired VPN providers unfortunately probably only works with the WireGuard protocol.
Then I also hope that a developer comes forward here who has experience with it (should already be integrated in the Linux kernel 5.6). I would also be happy to make a financial contribution to this, if it is within my means - which I unfortunately cannot estimate.

@joe I understand and keep fingers crossed for some volunteer tackling WireGuard „somewhen“. With the core team our focus is to make 99% of eBlocker users happier. With WireGuard I fear it‘s less than 1%…

THX!

@joe I don‘t see your point. You fail naming a VPN provider not using OpenVPN but come up with this Blockada sh*t. Go use it and toss your eBlocker. If you want garbage you get garbage. No reason to waste time for wireguard but rather go implement IPv6 for example.
