Hi

iPad, iOS 14.2, Firefox Focus, Safari, Firefox, all the same.

No additional blockers or so software running.

Eblocker 2.5.6. Active and running, not pausing. Blocking trackers and ads activated.

Orange circle appears.

When I enter URL www.google.com or www.facebook.com they appear and are not blocked.

OK.

I add www.google.com to the list of additionally blocked domains. Still, www.google.com is accessible.

When can I do to basically block everything which even remotely smells like google or facebook?

This did not seem to work. Can I enter *google*?

Or do I have to enter it somewhere else?

I have added some easy lists, e.g. the cookie blocking from Benne.

Thanks in advance

I suspect you‘ve granted trust to Google/FB by a Trusted App. Trust always overrules all blocking rules (of course!). Remove trust, add domain to be blocked to individual device via dashboard. Done.

Today global blocking rules (for all devices) can be added by a URL (via settings>blocker) only. Adding global blockers by a text list is high on the wish list for eOS 2.6.

In the meantime there is a workaround via parental controls: https://eblocker.org/community/main-forum/black-white/

THX!

@random thanks. I would have to check but in general don’t grant any rights to something such as google or facebook. I will check. When my blocker is back alive or with my new raspi

@random OK. I used my new raspi based blocker. Having switched off all of my other blocking stuff. Also did not add the google to eblocker. Used what is there. Google and Facebook work.

But I am to impatient. It took some time, more than I thought, but now I get a warning from eblocker. Great. Can I use Regex or so or main domains so that sub domains are blocked too. Eg. If I block google.com is a.google.com blocked? Or can I use *google* or such?

Thanks.

Can I use Regex or so

Yes, the easylist format that eBlocker handles (s. my post above) is similar to regex.

For sure there is plenty of documentation online about the easylist format. But - as said above - currently you need to fetch the list (in easylist format) from a URL. Of course this can be a local webserver in your LAN.

Regarding Trusted Apps: make sure to check all Apps in eBlocker as some are enabled by default to cause minimal interference. You might want to disable all to get full manual control

@random So I can create my own easylist file (which I actually have), put it on my web server and then add it to my trackers list. Neat. But when I go to the dashboard and add a domain I cannot use regex or something similar, correct?

I did check my trusted apps and websites, hence my comments in some other posts .... 🙂

@taipan Settings>Blocker There select Pattern(!) Tracker Blocker for example. Click "ADD". Enter a name, select format Easylist. Add URL. Done.

And yes, there is a comprehensive knowledge base/FAQ/manual etc. you can find under the link above the forum. There you find all the basics. 😉

Strange...

White Cube with OS 2.5.6, iPhone and iPad OS 14.2

Added in dashboard ‘Tracker and AdBlocker Rules’ google.com and facebook.com under ‘In addition, block connections to:’

On iPhone and iPad i can connect to those 2 sites as if the eBlocker didn’t exist and on my iMac those sites are perfectly blocked!

@robfranssen-fr Dashboard is device dependent. So you want to add your blocked domains to each device.

I suspect https is not active for these devices. So the domain blocker kicks in. This blocks the access to the domains (if you‘ve configured eBlocker to do so).

@robfranssen-fr Then it‘s the opposite around (sorry I didn‘t read your post carefully enough): your iMac has no https support enabled (or the cert is not installed properly). Or you have manually chosen to use the domain blocker only (in settings>devices>select device (ie. iMac) Check the blocker setting...

Also please run a function test (in dashboard Status tile) on all three devices.

THX!

@robfranssen-fr See here attached. I suspect you've changed this...

@robfranssen-fr Sorry, mate but you are driving me nuts.

PLEASE check out the readme and my post. You might want to consider deleting ALL your screenshot posts not to bomb this thread any further...

THX!

@robfranssen-fr I give up. See my post above. Maybe someone with more patience wants to take over.

Lets make this “RE: Facebook and Google how to block Version 2”

Have removed all the rubbish, reset my White Cube to factory-settings, updated to OS 2.5.6, activated my iPad and my iMac only in the ‘new’ eBlocker and included certificates both on my iPad and on my iMac. Both devices now support HTPPS. BLOCKER-setting for both devices remained unchanged ‘Automatic’.

Now, to avoid confusion with pictures:

ANY website, such as telegraaf.nl, introduced in the

Dashboard/Tracker and Ad Blocker Rules/In addition, block connections to:

on BOTH devices, is NOT blocked on both iMac and iPad even after waiting a substantial period (30 min). In the past, under OS 4.x, i’m pretty sure that such a website would be blocked. Under “RE: Facebook and Google how to block”, say Version 1, only the iMac blocked, the iPad did not.
