Hi,
on www.privacy-handbuch.de I found the recommendation to use JS-Restrictor ( https://polcak.github.io/jsrestrictor/) with Firefox as one module to improve privacy. Is there something similar in eblocker? Is it recommendable to use this extension together with eblocker?
Brgds
@tuxxer Your link is not working but I suppose you mean https://github.com/polcak/jsrestrictor
I know from several of your previous posts that you feel like „more helps more“ - which has resulted to several issues already (I vividly remember this support nightmare due to combing conflicting tools: https://eblocker.org/community/bugs-features/pdfw-does-not-show-any-entries/ )
Again, I‘m happy to repeat of what has been said many times: There is no need for additional tools unless you have VERY special needs AND know exactly what you are doing.
If you feel this plugin might prevent a privacy infringement, please move forward and name the threats and websites. We are all eager to learn. Please also double check how eBlocker treats these sites already…
Personally, I fear there is no gain - or worse: no clue 🤔 Then just refrain from what you don‘t understand. (Same strategy, like when picking mushrooms for food😜)
Last: With eBlockerOS 2.8 we‘ll come up with an improved first party fingerprinting blocker technology. This makes sense for only very few sites - but still we feel there is room for improvement - and therefore implemented it. Just trust the experts… - we are on it 😉
THX!
@Random:
Thanks for your feedback!
Sometimes it is not so easy to justify if something is useful or not. That´s why I ask the experts!
The target is to do the necessar, but not to overdo it!

Well then: just use eBlocker. That‘s exactly our goal.
THX!
I‘d like to comment your „let‘s add as many tools to eBlocker as possible“ approach from my perspective:
eBlocker is made for the general Internet user to fight the big threats, like profiling from GAFAM, high risks like malware and other dangers that affect everyone. Here we try to balance the risk between blocking the dangers while still most services (app, sites) work as expected. Same with taking a medicine for curing a specific disease while minimizing risks of side effects.
Now, your approach with „adding more“ is like taking all medicines available worldwide at once, even the risks for a disease are theoretical only. Would you constantly take anti-malaria pills with many bad side effects while living in Europe? Probably not.
Same with this plugin you‘ve proposed: It bares many bad side effects and will cause regular usage to break, while risks of beeing affected are highly theoretical only. At least I am not aware of any privacy breach out in the wild using timing attacks or your sound card. So why break the possibility of playing music/videos if there is super low risk for the general user?
If you are Edward Snowden, 007 or a whistle blower: go and take all the tools available or better stop using the Internet. With eBlocker this is not our audience and not our approach.
So next time you find some „medicine“ I‘d suggest you check the real risks of a threat rather than just taking the pill and wondering why it makes you more sick than ever.
I‘m saying all this because I‘ve noticed how much time we‘ve spend supporting you, just to find out you were „overdosing“ on questionable pills and eBlocker had nothing to do with your bad side effects.
Remember: eBlocker is made up by volunteers spending their spare time to help general people preserving their privacy. And this time is a very precious resource we can not waste…
Hope I‘ve made myself clear and thanks for your understanding.
@benne Well said! THX very much for your words to avoid another support nightmare with "my audio stopped since using eBlocker" 👍🤣
@tuxxer eBlocker is a great "medicine" to cure your privacy issues. It's appreciated to talk about other medicine but rather refrain from taking everything else... it just makes everyone sick💊🤮💊
THX!
