Initially we wanted to have a first alpha release for the Raspberry Pi 4 ready at the end of March. This will be delayed; we now estimate to have a first image for testing ready mid April.
I am currently working on the automated image building process. I had to set up a new build server and learn how Chef works. Next steps are:
- Use new build server to reproduce the Raspberry Pi 3 image (Debian Stretch)
- Set up repositories for Raspberry Pi 4 (Debian Buster)
- Adapt the build scripts for Raspberry Pi 4
hello,
i'm new to eblocker and just want to try eblocker on my pi 4 - i got it running but on the 'Aktivierungsassistent' - i can not get get further than till the licence entry screen.
i used FAMLFT-DEMO but it always fails.
any idea/help
thanks
holli
but it always fails.
Could you please be more specific (exact message / code etc) and/or post a screenshot.
And you might want to check this, which sounds similar:
seems the same issues with the "no network" connection in the beginning.
1) is the Raspi plugged in via lan cable?
2) is the Raspi Device in the router enabled for internet or blocked?
For example with the fritzbox own parental controls? if yes, give eblocker full internet access.
cheers
Sven
hello,
it did get resolved on its own
1) pi connect through lan cable
2) i looked in my dhcp server (what ip it got) - mikrotik routeros for gateway + DNS
3) made eblocker pi a static ip
4) used this ip - direct in the browser and was on a kind of setup screen with tabs for language/...
5) on the last tab i entered the mentioned key + an email address and got not past this
5.1) it was always complaining about the key is not valid/could not be activated
i than used a different url - http://setup.eblocker.com and was on a different screen on top menu i used the licence activation and it worked
so it is activated now - but screwed up all my existing clients (mainly dhcp) as my routeros is a dhcp/dns for my local devices (local domain: holli.local) f.ex. i have servers obelix.holli.local or satip.holli.local - these devices where not resolved anymore from the clients - so i ended up adding the routeros DNS on position 0 - that my local dns resolving was working again.
i do not want to maintain my local device name resolution in 2 places is there somewhere a guide/faq for more complex networks (in my case it is a /20).
so should i still keep the primary dns within routeros or switch it to eblocker what is here best practice?
i already changed the system/network to expert and external so at least all my infrastructure is working again based on the dhcp.
before going forward and changing my static ip's settings any suggestion would be great.
to get an idea why i want to use eblocker - mainly to control/safe my kids - f.ex. block websites like roblox,... and allow youtube only on certain time frames - as school is now taking place at home and a pc is needed for that but as maybe you know - you can't sit all the time next to them and control that they are working and not surfing...
any input welcome
thanks
holli
@holli73 Not the right spot to discuss this. A new topic would be better
Anyway, try using eBlocker DNS for all your clients (in your DHCP or use eBlocker's). Then add your DNS server as the only DNS under external DNS.
Sould do the trick 😉
Version 2.5.1 is now available as an update. This includes fixes for
- eBlocker Mobile
- macOS/iOS certificate bug (Thanks to @mainzelM)
- Updated texts and links in eBlocker (no more GmbH and .com)
There will be no new eBlockerOS image but all 2.5.0 Raspi 4 installations will be updated automatically.
Hi,
thanks for this new version.
I took my PI4, and pu the 2.5.0 image on an sd-card with 32gb
1. start eblocker and aktivate with the assistent
2. choose expert mode and gave a static ip, gateway and dns
3. do the update to 2.5.1
4. activate HTTPS certifikate
5. in my mikrotik router do a portforwarding for the eBlocker Mobile (VPN) with a special port
6. aktivate eBlocker Mobile (VPN) with the assistent
7. test eBlocker Mobile (VPN) with iPhone and Ubuntu PC; works well 👍
8. test Blocker Functions; works well 👍
9. create own entrys in Domain and Patternblocker
10. activate TOR, works well
11. activate TOR with a Client over eBlocker Mobile (VPN), i don't get the eBlocker symbol in the browser (Firefox); has anyone the same symptom 🤔
I will run the alpha2 in the productive network to check stability...
Thanks to the team for the excellent work 🤗

Any idea when an update for the ‘one-and-only-original’ (white cube) eBlocker will be available?
Rob
Thanks very much @bpr for the excellent work!
Special thanks to @mainzelM for fixing the nasty macOS certificate bug.
@rob: First, all services need to work properly on debian buster (raspi 4). Then we can tackle the update for everyone to debian buster - but this will be a two step update (s. newsletter). As development always takes longer than expected I'm personally not seeing the update before end of May or even early June.
activate TOR with a Client over eBlocker Mobile (VPN), i don't get the eBlocker symbol in the browser (Firefox); has anyone the same symptom 🤔
I can confirm this behavior. But I guess it's a bug that existed before already? Can you confirm this is with 2.5.1 only?
Also: I couldn't reach eblocker.box or eBlocker's IP with TOR enabled and had to disable TOR via the settings from another device. Bug or design feature?
@pio78 Would you please take this topic to the bug collection in the raspi 4 bug thread - if it's confirmed to be 2.5.1 only. Otherwise to the general bugs...
Thanks very much for the great tests and feedback!!

@pio78 The filter list update repo is in the works still (you don‘t get filter updates at the moment).
We take it to beta, once we are „feature complete“. 😎
THX.
Anyone with a Raspi 2 or 3 who wants to check out eOS 2.5.1?
Just download the Raspi 4 image (it probably just works) and proceed...
@benne just for clarification. Is the beta version equal to the last alpha.
Is it necessary to do a new install or is it ok to use the last alpha, and the system will be updated?
The old alpha is the new beta 😉
No need to reinstall. Sorry for not making this clear enough.
Topic closed as we are in beta-testing now. Please post beta-version bugs here.
THX!
