The eblocker recently causes the playback (at least) from the ("öffentlich-rechtlichen", I don't watch others) media libraries to stop after a few minutes in such a way that it jumps to the end of the selected program, where another program/episode or similar is suggested.

It's definitely due to eblocker (and regardless of whether https support is enabled or not).

For the two Panasonic smartTVs on which the error has occurred with me so far, eblocker lists the manufacturer Wistron Neweb Corporation. On my third (newer, manufacturer Panasonic Appliances Company) I have not tested it yet

Playback from the media server (NAS) is not affected by this.

Client OS
Browser
eBlocker hardware
eBlockerOS version

@joern It would be great if you could share the info asked in the README first.

Could you please also be more specific on the client (a SmartTV, model/OS?) and what you do to play the video: exact way to reproduce.

Can you reproduce the issue on a PC/Mac/Android/iOS client as well?

You mentioned your NAS. Same questions here. The more detailed you describe what you do the faster we can help.

THX!

@ random

Maybe you should also think about older people that don´t know the "Böhmische Dörfer" you younger guys are talking about...but are concerned about their privacy....without us half rotten mess the kickstarter project probably wouldn´t have happened

So here are some additional technical details:

Fritzbox 7590ax that generates the IP-adresses, latest OS...WLAN Repeaters Fritz 2400, latest OS

Raspberry Pi 4 8GB with OS 2.91 latest update...maybe the problem relates to this

EVERYTHING (several computers with XP, 7, 10 and 11, android-smartphones/tablets, Solaredge PV with LG batteries, SMA/Enwitec emergency power.....) runs fine except:

Playback ARD, ZDF...("öffentlich rechtliche") Mediathek on Panasonic smartTVs (TX47ASW804, TX32DSW504 - eblocker detects Wistron Neweb Corporation as manufacturer -and TX49GXW904 -eblocker detects Panasonic Appliances Company)...maybe other models and mediatheques are affected too

2,4 and/or 5 Ghz, LAN or WLAN ...all that enerving shit make no difference

NAS-playback (external hard disc via Fritzbox-Mediaserver) on the mentioned TVs without interference

Mediathek-Playback on other devices without interference

So for me as an IT-idiot, that supports the eblocker thing from the beginning....with money...it seems there´s a problem between eblocker and mediathek-playback on smart-TVs only.

My solution so far: eblocker disabled or my TVs

@joern Just a wild guess: are you using the automatic network mode? The eBlocker doctor will tell you that and also point you to a solution (that is, use the individual mode, see https://eblocker.org/docs/eblocker-individual-network-setting/)

@mainzelM

Hej MainzelM(ännchen;-)....is that you who promoted the eblocker-kickstart via ZDF in 2015/2016??? ...ok, just kidding!

Yes, without asking a doctor: I use the automatic network mode...or for a better understanding: the plug & play-mode with my new fritzbox 7590ax.

And I won´t change that (my white cube melt down after the update from the 21st/22nd of April and I had to set up a complete new network because I needed the individual mode using a Fritzbox 7490 with the eblocker as IP-generator before that).

"Important!" under "Step four" can´t be written big enough!!!

So if there is or will be no other solution, the eblocker stays disabled for the TVs and "Bosetti redet weiter"....und das darf auch jeder wissen 😉

Thanx a lot

Addition:

of course I use the fixed-ip-addresses-function of the fritzbox for all devices due to a central scanners wishes and needs

@ calimerO

...so the Autotrust check mark didn´t bring any change...thanks anyway...

@ MainzelM     and anybody else interested

By the way, the following observation is also kinda funny:

Internet radio (Sonoro stream - manufacturer according to Eblocker Frontier Silicon Ltd.): at Radioeins and FluxFM (both Berlin) and SWR2 with activated eblocker again and again small dropouts, on the display then appears "Netzwerk-time"...at KEXP (Seattle) no shit like that!? ...even with https enabled....on Sonoro only, on Pioneer/Onkyo -they use TuneIn-webradio- network-players  https has to be disabled for KEXP?

Is the GEZ back and not trusted by eblocker?? 😉

@joern This is a known behavior with some routers when Auto Network mode is enabled. See https://eblocker.org/docs/information-on-radios-loudspeakers-printers-nas/

@random in the docs you linked, there is nothing told with "auto network mode" ...

Can you please give me a little technical insight what could be the issue? I have that issue only on my sonos while playing "sunshine live" with eblocker enabled and have not found anything visible blocked by the eblocker, but when turning it off, it works like a charm

Regards

I don't understand what you are trying to say ("I use the automatic network mode...", "...needed the individual mode...") but anyway: the automatic network mode works using a technique called "ARP spoofing", which means that the eBlocker is flooding the network which messages telling all devices to use the eBlocker as their gateway (instead of the standard gateway). However, this is not the way the network is initially setup (the router is configured to be your gateway) and ARP spoofing is something I would consider to be beyond the specification of the ARP protocol. So, long story short: while the automatic network mode is certainly nice for beginners, it is not surprising that it also causes some hassles in the long term. I would recommend to anybody who is convinced of eBlocker's benefits to use the individual mode, except if you don't dare to make changes to the router (which I can of course comprehend).

Blocking tracking activity of Smart TVs is an area where eBlocker really shines as you can seen in the statistics of the Personal Device Firewall, so disabling eBlocker for them really means that the TV stations can watch you zapping (no pun intended). But your mileage may vary of course.

@calimero As @mainzelM discussed: due to ARP spoofing the stream can get interrupted. Depending on the client this may result in skipping/pausing/interrupting of the video. Although in many cases it just works perfectly (depending on router/client)

And yes @calimero, you are right: docs need to be updated that this is recommended with Automatic Mode only.

@joern The only solution is the Individual Mode - protecting your SmartTV too 👍

THX!

@random @mainzelm Hope I get you right... This means also, when you setup for example a SmartTV manually, fixed ip address, manual subnet AND gateway pointing to the eblocker, this is also "solving" this issue??

Thanks for your explanations so far and regards
Sven
