Hi,
the update eBlockerOS 2.5 for „weiße Würfel" seemed working well. Last message displayed (from memory): "... runtergefahren. System kann abgeschaltet werden". Even after disconnecting he device from power suppy eblocker didn't boot. Kindly I ask for advice how to proceed to get my eBlocker back to work.
eblocker didn't boot
How can you tell? Do you have a white cube with bright(!) LEDs in the housing?
Please be more verbose about your setting and describe what exactly happend.
Are the LAN LEDs on/blinking?
Have you tried the iPad app to discover your eBlocker (maybe IP has changed)?
Have you tried by reaching (ping) via emergency IP?
@random: I have a white cube no bright LEDs in the housing.
Which settings do you mean? I followed the instructions for the update given my your email. The eBlocker was already updated to OS 2.4.10. Hence I started manually the update to eOS 2.5.6. The update started - the completion bar was displayed - it went 10 100% - a display told me that the system will be shut down and restarted again - then the display something like " the system was shut down. The system can be disconneted." Then I tried to connect to eBlocker via the eBlocker URL 192.168.178.42:3000 - and received a time out message - I tried after some minutes again - the same result - the same procedure this morning with the same result.
@iPad: No, why should I have done this? I use eBlocker with my decktop PC.
@ping: No, I don't know the "emergency ping".
The LAN LED is blinking.
@meutgens Probably just the eBlocker IP has changed.
The iPad App can be used to find the IP of your eBlocker in your network. If you don't have an iPad: have you tried "http://eblocker.box" on any eBlocker enabled device yet?
Are you using eBlocker's automatic network mode or manual settings/which?
Can you please open a windows shell (Type "cmd" in the Win search bar and hit return).
In the black shell window type the following "ping 192.168.178.42" and post output here.
Please also post results of "ipconfig".
PS: @random posted a link. Just click on "setting" in his post...
@"http://eblocker.box": I just tried - result:
Seite wurde nicht gefunden
Die Verbindung mit dem Server www.eblocker.box schlug fehl.
Falls die Adresse korrekt ist, können Sie noch Folgendes versuchen:
Die Seite später noch einmal aufrufen.
Die Netzwerkverbindung überprüfen.
Falls der Computer sich hinter einer Firewall befindet, überprüfen Sie bitte, ob Firefox der Internetzugriff erlaubt wurde.
@ I am using eBlocker's automatic network
@ "ping 192.168.178.42": see attachment
Hm. Seems your eBlocker has a different IP now (which can happen after the update in auto network mode).
Try disconnecting eBlocker from power and wait for 1min. Power up. Then wait at least 5min. Do the same with your device.
After everything has rebooted: Check if "http://eblocker.box" works now.
If not: Go to "http://fritz.box". "Heimnetz>Netzwerk". Does eBlocker show up here? Maybe share a screenshot of the result to be sure.
Background: I'm trying to find the IP address of your eBlocker (as you have no iPad). eBlocker might be working but just has a different IP...
One more thing - and to eliminate another source of error: I highly recommend disabling IPv6 on your PC (and on your Fritz if possible). Otherwise IPv6 packages may pass eBlocker and circumvent it's protection. See also here.
Which settings do you mean?
As @Benne said: Click on settings in my post and you got the answer...
Why is this info so important?
Imagine you call a car repair shop and say "my car is not working anymore" but you mention nothing about your car model / configuration and what happend in detail....
How can the car shop help without any knowledge? Then any help turns into guessing - which is not my cup of tea to solve issues. So it's important to explain EXACTLY what your settings are (your "car") so we can help focused...
Hope this makes it more clear: The more precise you are the more precise we can help.
But I guess @Benne is on the right track. Find the IP of your eBlocker first. I also doubt "eBlocker didn't boot" as you suggested. The LAN LEDs would not be blinking if it has not booted...
@benne
@"different IP now": correct - last digit changed from "2" to "4" - could discover it in "http://fritz.box". "Heimnetz>Netzwerk" - using this new ip I can access eBlocker admin again
@recommended procedure: done - but no access to "http://eblocker.box" - error message: side not found
@"http://fritz.box". "Heimnetz>Netzwerk": eblocker is listed - but connected to the Fritz!Powerline and not to Fritz router (see attached screenshot) - looks strange in my mind.
@IP address of your eBlocker: see above
@IPv6 on your PC (and on your Fritz if possible): Fritz is working with IPv4 - Win10 I don't know.
Firthert observation: eBlocker seems not working with his protection - I can't see the eBlocker post on a non http side in the upper right corner as before the update.
I kindly ask you not to treat me as a child.
E.g. if I haven't access to eBlocker how can I provide you with the info about eBlocker settings? I would have appreciated it very much if you would have worked on the reported issue seriously as Benne has done so far.
Hi,
ist it possible to connect via IP, for example like192.168.178.4 ???
Use your eBlocker IP 🙂
regards
PIO78
I kindly ask you not to treat me as a child.
Sorry mate, I just wanted to explain why this info is so important in a simple manner understandable for non tech savvy users. I had the impression you were not a tech geek..
As you now have eBlocker access, I dare to repeat my question above: setting??? (especially eBlocker‘s network settings / screenshot!)
On the cmd shell (see above) enter „nslookup www.amazon.com“ and post results here (screenshot). Also enter „ping 1.1.1.1“ and post results.
Finally as a hint to disable IPv6: try searching „disable IPv6 windows 10“ - and act accordingly...
@pio78 Sorry to correct you, but it‘a little riddle above:
Before it was .178.42 then „last digit increased to 4“ - so my outcome is 178.44 - not 178.4 - but unless you take pen and paper, the riddle is really hard to solve with this descripition - even for tech geeks 😉
Meanwhile @meutgens was able to connect to eBlocker. Now we check routing and DNS by hoping for answers to my questions above... We get it fixed - sooner or later 😉
Yes, now I can connect via "http://192.168.178.42:3000/settings/#!/login" - it seems that the IP changed again to the digit "2" at the end.
@network settings:
Ihre aktuellen Netzwerkeinstellungen:
Why only one file can be attached?
Feature of the forum software. There is a simple work-around: Post 1st file. Edit post. Add next file. Post. Repeat as often as you have files to add.
@ping Amazon: see attachment
This shows eBlocker is not used as DNS.
Please follow this https://praxistipps.chip.de/primaeren-dns-server-ermitteln_36397 and post results here.
I have disabled IPv6 in Win 10 - no impact on connectivity to "http://eblocker.box" or get the eblocker icon in the upper right on non https pages.
@DNS: see attachgment
Please follow this https://praxistipps.chip.de/primaeren-dns-server-ermitteln_36397 and post results here.
Todo.
@meutgens : Another source of error to eliminate: Make sure PC and eBlocker are connected to the same router/switch (not using power lan or repeater).
@meutgens THX for collaboration.
Last two question before we solve this (at least for your PC):
Are you sure "Automatic Network" is enabled in eBlocke and not "manual/expert"?
Please post screenshot of Settings>Devices where it shows the IP 178.39 (your PC).
It is - as always - eBlocker worked welluntil I unstalled the update.
It is - as always - eBlocker worked welluntil I unstalled the update.
Well so far we see that eBlocker's IP has changed (twice - which is very odd). That's the reason why it didn't work initially.
Have your rebooted everything? (router,:wait till boot finished, then eBlocker (reboot via settings!) - wait till reboot. then PC. Then retry.
@Settings>Devices (from eBlcoker)
Gerätedetails
No. Thats not it.
Sorry, I mean the Devices List overview (not the detail). I'm specifically looking for the icons under "state" column - but please post whole screenshot.
@your 1st point: Wow - What a great finding after all the time today. It's so obvious that even I noticed it. And what is the solution?
@your 2nd point: Rooter I haven't rebooted so far - no obvious reason so far. I will do above descriped rebooting procedure - hoping that after it eBlocker works well again. Will come back to you.
@meutgens Buddy, it took soo long as you were not answering properly or at all. Just see last question about settings>devices. I did not get what I asked for...?! STILL!
I haven't rebooted so far - no obvious reason so far.
"Jeder Boot tut gut" is an admins speech you might remember after this...
If reboot did not help then set your PCs network settings static to the following:
IP: 192.168.178.39
Mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.178.42
DNS 1: 192.168.178.42
If you don't know how to set static IP on PC: Use a search engine.
Using this setting it will work for the PC 100% (if cert etc. is installed properly).
CHEERS!
I conducted the rebooting porcedure as described by you - result: no internet access any more with my PC - I had to disconnect eBlocker from the network and to restart my PC again - to recover internet access.
More and moe the whole "bug fixing" becomes annoying for me - I have spent a lot of time today, provided all the staff requested - result: no internet connection with a connected eBlocker.
It's after 11pm here - your 2.5 update seems pretty faulty to me - please provide a working solution to the issue by tomorrow - otherwise I stopp to support the eBlocker initiative.
@meutgens Some 10.000 people have successfully installed the update. How many issues do you see get posted? You might wanna rethink your judgement to an objective level - and read this thread after you've slept for a fact based judgment.
I really tried hard to get you going. If you proceed with the IP settings I've stated above: eBlocker with cover your PC for sure.
RESULT analysis for the tech savvy: For some reason eBlockers ARP listener seems to get blocked or is not working. Or eBlocker’s DNS service is not working properly or is misconfigured.
Thanks anyway & good luck!
It's interesting - your advises didn't work so far and you shift the responsibility for the mess to the patient - that is really annoying.
Hence my last request to you: Please assign another person from the support team to my ticket - or tell me who I should contact te get the professional help needed. Meanwhile I will not execute any request or advise from you any more - it seems to be a vaste of time.
It makes no sense to comment on your posts any more - hoping somebody with more expertise will take over my tockit - hopefully tomorrow.

@meutgens This is my last post. Do it or leave it.
DNS FW must be Default or OFF (See above).
Good luck with support in future.
Over and out!
@meutgens I‘d like to pick up your doctor/patient example to share my perspective of this discussion:
There is a patient, being very impatient and impolite:
If the doc kindly asks to remove the shirt, the patient barks back „why the shirt?“ and rather takes the shoes off. If the doc asks to report pain in chest, patient is talking about pain in his feet or is not answering doc’s questions at all... 🤔
Even the doc stays calm (thanks much @random for staying so cool during „high maintenance“ 😎 🤩 ) the patient starts shouting why the cure takes so long. More over he even insults the doc for not doing a good job - while being still in diagnosis - stating he wouldn‘t take doc‘s prescription anyhow - but demands another free doc to now get instant help... 🤔
Wow!
@meutgens If I were that patient wanting free consultation, I would rather slow down, excuse, turn very polite and do what the doc told. He‘s the best in town!!
@benne @random I also work in support. There are always these guys who think they are very smart and think you have no idea what they are doing.
You did a great job. Just go ahead and leave those idiots alone. The project is more important than weirdos who know everything better! You are the good guys. Keep up the good work!
eBlocker & update run just smoothly. Very big thanks to the whole team for the effort!
@benne
Your understanding of "patient user" (in German: "geduldiger Benutzer") might refer to a type of English language I have never encountered. Therefore it wouldn't be appropriate to write a reply.
When I worte the last blog entry yesterday around 11pm my lovely wife dropped into my home office asking me what I am doing at Saturday night in front of my desktop. I told her that the update for the little white cube besides the router went wrong, the support couldn't provide a solution ... the white cube makes our use with the internet a little bit more safety and less annoying ... - she listened carefully and asked finally one question: "Do we need the white cuve to be happy?" - wow, a good question - my answer to her: "Not really - there are some alternatives at hands." - therfore Mr benne and your fabulous support team - I am out. Might be that I can reuse the Raspberry Pi for a little gadget in my motorbike garage downstairs.
PS: I worked for pretty a log time in the IT business - starting as a programmer - built up and managed high performance teams (including 1st and 2nd level support teams) - aquired and supervised national and international IT projects - what we learnt very quickly what counts: quality, quality, quality, listening to the customer -he has the money 😉 - and showing always respect to customer represenatives even if you dislike the person by whatever personal reasons.
Dear Miss/Mrs/Mr noname, I kindly recommend that you look in a mirror. There may be a chance for help.
@meutgens You might have missed the fact that eBlocker is supported by volunteers only. We all spend our free time because we love our community and our mission to bring privacy to people.
Respect is core to our acting. Our tone is professional and polite as it's led by respect for each other - no matter if team member, partner or user.
As you stated with your great background, you've learned already that respect to customers is key in business. Unfortunately this has apparently not yet led to respect when asking a favor from a volunteer you are not in business with.
I feel this is rather sad as we appreciate our users very much. Be it high or low maintenance users with various tempers. We love them all and are super happy to help.
But I can fully understand that nobody wants to spend time for someone being disrespectful to an extend, I have not experienced very often in the past 50+ years.
From my perspective it's never to late to learn, regret and excuse. Treat people the same way you want to get treated: with respect. Maybe then volunteers will return to help you again... your choice 🤔
PS: As a good example of @random's great support just check out this recent case of a "patient user"
@meutgens Thanks for kind advice. I also have one for you when talking to support next time: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j8uefBUOfgA
@meutgens I‘m not resentful. A simple excuse and respectful communication will get me back in the support ring. If you stop your offenses finally here is my helpful hand... 😉 🖐️
One hint: there is always the factory reset or SD card install left to start all over - even if arrogance or obstinency is blocking an excuse... 😜
@subscriber THX for sharing! Not my tone but wisely chosen words fitting well!
MAC-address? Just an idea:
Came across the same Problem after updating "white cube" to 2.5.
Tried everything to find old or new ip-Adress of e-Blocker...no way. Using a Draytek-Router with "Bind IP to Mac", I finally found, that the e-Blockers MAC-address had changed!! Quite strange....
Removing the MAC-address entry from the bind-ip list and refreshing gave me access to the e-blocker settings page unter the old ip-address.
@kingyellow Thanks for the hint!
IP address change due to MAC address change is a know issue. See here https://eblocker.org/community/bugs-features/known-issue-ip-and-mac-address-change-after-eos-2-5-upgrade/
In this particular case we could solve the IP change quite quickly. But couldn't go deeper to the cause of error as essential infos were not provided by @meutgens ...
