Is there a tried & tested setting for enabebling a reliable but as well data-saving usage of iOS apps for the content of Madsack group newspapers, e.g. Leipziger Volkszeitung or Hannoversche Allgemeine Zeitung?

When one tries to configure such a setting by trial & error using the "manual diagnosis" function, one have to deal with appr. 40 providers. At least for me it is confusing, which of these providers are mandatory and which not.

Client OS
Browser
eBlocker hardware
Client OS version

eBlockerOS version

@facebita I'm happy to help if you share the link to the app. I couldn't find "Hannoversche Allgemeine" in the Apple appstore.

Off topic and just as a reminder: You owe a proof that eBlocker is affecting disabled devices as discussed in a different thread. I'd love to tackle this case before investing time into the Madsacks app, as this would be a very severe issue that needs high priority. "Zug um Zug" and "first things first" 😉

THX!

@random The issues - hidden content - appear, when you are a subscriber to a paid account. Then, when eBlocker is active, the paid content remains hidden, nevertheless you are logged in as subscriber.

@facebita

Usually it's not that complicated to find the right domain that is used for certificate pinning (which is the reason for not correctly loading sites/apps).

Tracking domains never use certificate pinning to my knowledge.

Now, if you have 40 domains recorded, you can

  1. Go thru each domain - one by one. Always re-enabling the domain for eBlocker protection if it wasn't the culprit. With brute force you are done in 40min (assuming you test a domain within a minute).
  2. Use common sense and sort out the domains with names sounding like trackers/ad-servers. Then you can probably reduce the brute force test set to 10% - so you are done in far less than 10 minutes.
  3. Try to use AI for step 2. letting the LLM judge the domains to reduce the test set.

A word in general:

Please understand we are happy to help. But we are all volunteers investing our free(!) time to help you. This needs good collaboration from you, stating at least clearly how an issue can be reproduced. Not sharing details initially is not a good idea as this can result in back and forth questions, which are a waste of volunteer time. This makes everyone unhappy - including you, the user.

In addition, if the issue reproduction needs a paid account, we are happy to move forward, if you share credentials or sponsor the paid account with a donation. Otherwise we can not help - and it's a waste of time for everyone.

I'm pointing this out as @random is very unhappy about the partial issue reports you are constantly supplying. He is not willing to touch your request again, unless you change to a clear description with step by step instructions for reproducing the issue.

So, do yourself and us a favor: the more clear your issue report is, the quicker we can help - and then we can make everyone happy without wasting time.

Thanks for your understanding and collaboration. 👍

@Benne and @random, I highly appriciate your engagement in the eBlocker project. And it was absolutely not in my objection to make you searching the needle in my haystack. I thought: Maybe someone here had already expirienced that issue and therefore could share an appropriate solution.

I'll continue next weekend to check all the sources the RND website connects to finde the culprit. I've already found that, when one disables eBlcoker for the aforementioned 40 URLs, the website is connecting further appr. 20 resources. But the issue remains.

I'll come back here hopefully with a solutions that could help others too.

And, last but not least: Thank you for your support and your patience. And, honestly, sorry for any annoyance.
