No issues with the eBlocker in the browser. Internet access working well. The test via Dasboard was successful.

In the last few days, the problem has arisen that no devices listed under Network/Computer can be reached under the name given there. The list of computers is complete, but not usable.

Only access via the associated IP is still possible. When the eBlocker is deactivated and the PC is restarted, everything works normally again (switching to Pause is not sufficient). Obviously all Windows PCs in the network are affected. Apart from what happens at night via the automatic updates, nothing has been changed. The eBlocker has been running for several years without any major problems.

Client OS
Browser
eBlocker hardware
eBlockerOS version

@user-js To my knowledge eBlockerOS does not touch local traffic (from internal device A to internal device B). So I wonder how eBlocker could cause any trouble 🤔

Please set eBlocker to Pause on one of the Windows devices. Then verify if the issue is gone.

If you still can't access the device, I'd rather suspect a Windows update. You may want to verify the update history.

THX!

@random Pause mode has been tested without direct effect - worked only if it is paused for a longer time and computer is restarted. Same effect if eBlocker is deactivated completely in the eBlocker settings.

It was also my understanding that internal traffic would not be affected. However, it seemed clear yesterday and also this afternoon that only deactivating the eBlocker solves the problem. 3 Windows devices did show the same problem. Updates have not been carried out recently.

At the moment, the problem seems to have been resolved. Just tested again and it works normal this evening.

No idea what happened. The problem can currently be considered solved. I will get back here if the problem recurs.

Thank you.

computer is restarted

If the Windows computer reboot is solving your issues, the problem is Windows!

There is no correlation to eBlocker, if eBlocker is in Pause and the issue is still ongoing. Impossible!

To proof, next time leave eBlocker untouched and just reboot Windows. This will have the same effect for sure.

THX!

Just to close this topic properly:

Restarting with ebocker activated did not help. However, a Windows update was probably already running in the background, which may have been responsible.

A restart with ebocker deactivated the day before yesterday temporarily solved the problem. Now everything is OK again, as usual.

I really appreciate your help. We can end this here.

Unfortunately, I have to take up the subject again. The problem has returned. I have been searching for the last three days without finding a solution.

The problem is clearly due to the eBlocker, even if the internal network traffic is theoretically not affected.

If the computer is started without the eBlocker activated. Everything works perfectly.

Immediately after activating the eBlocker, some network device names no longer work. Not always all, but at least some.

When Windows is restarted (eBlocker active), none of the names work anymore. Only deactivating the eBlocker and restarting the Windows PC solves the problem.

The real problem is that all programs that work with the network name and not the IP no longer work. This particularly affects the backup software and various applications that access the NAS.

The only hint I got from Windows is the following error message:

"Gefundene Probleme
Datei- und Druckerfreigaberessource (xxx-home [this devices is a Fritz!
Abgeschlossen"

I don't know what to do anymore.

The restrictions are so severe that I can no longer actually use eBlocker under Windows.

@user-js If you are using Automatic Network mode Please switch eBlockerOS to Individual Network mode.

If this didn't solve the issue, please share all info asked here (use one of the Windows devices as client): https://eblocker.org/community/announcements/before-posting-here-please-read/#post-117

BTW: I'm in a Windows network as well and have the "Microsoft IP addresses" Trusted App enabled. My Windows Devices work very well with eBlockerOS.

THX!

The problem still exists. Haven't had much time to track the problem

Individual Network mode is no option for me. Strangely enough, I didn't have any problems for several years before. I haven't changed the eBlocker settings for a long time either.

There is only one Windows-device which seems to have no problem. The network devices are not blocked, only the device names are swallowed up. No problem to work with IP-adresses.

I suspected Google Drive, but uninstalling it didn't help either.

No problems at all under Android.

Seems to be somehow related to the DNS firewall. If I deactivate it in the eBlocker settings, the error disappears at the moment.

I consider the problem to be narrowed down, but not as resolved.

no devices listed under Network/Computer can be reached under the name given there. The list of computers is complete, but not usable.

To fully understand the problem (as no one else can replicate it) it would be great if you could

  1. Take a screenshot of the Network/Computer list
  2. Describe more in detail where these computers are located (local in your lan or external)
  3. Give more details which technology you use to serve files from these computers (are these other Windows computers sharing folders, NAS systems (which brand) using which protocol to serve the files, etc)
  4. Which error message you get if eBlocker DNS is enabled (screenshot please)

Please also take a screenshot of your "external servers" configured in eBlocker's DNS firewall as well of the settings in the Local Network Tab (in the DNS Firewall setting).

THX!

@random

short update on this:

If I change for "DNS-Firewall active/Internet  Provider" I have no issues.

only the setting "DNS-Firewall active/external DNS-server" creates trouble

image

It is a standard Windows network with a workgroup - nothing special - devices connected via LAN or WLAN (does not matter how connected). Different Win10 devices, 2 FritzBoxes, some NAS-devices and a WLAN outdoor camera.

Get an error like this (example for the FritzBox which is the DHCP server):

image

Access via IP address remains possible, but not via the device name.

It's strange that no one else seems to have the same problem. I can't say when the problem started, but it worked the same way for several years before.
