Dear community,

I've observed that the e-Blocker shows not at least the same tracker/add blocking behavior as in Safari 15.1 with disabled tracking option.

Following screenshot as an example of the observed situation:

1. Safari information on website tracking indicated by Safari 15.1 and OSX Monterey 12.0.1:

Bildschirmfoto 2021 11 04 um 08.10.38

You can see in the left upper corner, that the e-blocker is active, however no information of blocked trackers as mentioned by Safari.

2. Safari settings for data security:

Bildschirmfoto 2021 11 04 um 08.11.32

Further input: I did not found the mentioned tracking pages on e-Blockers white list for trusted apps and trusted websites, beside of google(dot)com.

Happy for any feedback.

THX

@bonycb eBlocker works on network level. It analyzes outgoing request and blocks the request if a tracker is the target.

If you have other tracker blockers in place (like from apple, your browser or browser plugins), eBlocker will only show those trackers, that have not been blocked by other techniques already. So you can use eBlocker to find "holes" in other techs very well.

Try disabling all your other techniques and check what eBlocker detects on network level for real comparison.

BTW: The eBlocker icon might not show all the trackers that got filtered (due to display issues - depending on the website in question). The full story is shown in the Personal Device Firewall and all filter details are found in a blocker analysis (see here https://eblocker.org/community/bugs-features/how-to-debug-over-underblocking-via-https/# ).

Please also note, that most other blocking techniques protect the browser only. eBlocker‘s advantage to block on network level extents tracker blocking to all device’s traffic (also from all apps and the OS). 👍

Hope this helps to understand the differences better. 😉

@random Good morning,

Thanks for your feedback,

there are no other blockers installed as you've seen in my previous post showing the settings in Safari, however it seems that the option in Safari "Hide IP Address for trackers" makes a difference, even if all other privacy options in Safari are disabled.

Once I disabled "Hide IP Address for trackers", the eBlocker blocks finds more tracker to block. Any explanation form your professional understanding?

One more observation:

even with activated e-Blocker, confirmed e-Blocker functionality, I found that for the following webpage:

the e-Blocker is not active (at e-Blocker least symbol is not indicated). Mentioned Website is not on the whitelist resp. no exception for this website in the e-Blocker.

e-Blocker analysis tools shows this:

Bildschirmfoto 2021 11 08 um 11.02.39

Best regards

Sorry, I have no macOS/iOS knowledge and my German is poor. But as far as I researched the option "IP Address verbergen" this enables the "Apple Private Relay". Please see this announcement: https://eblocker.org/community/announcements/beware-of-apple-private-relay-please-disable/#

In brief: eBlocker is disabled if Apple Private Relay is enabled.

the e-Blocker is not active (at e-Blocker least symbol is not indicated).

Your screenshot shows eBlocker is working properly - and for example blocked Google Analytics on the indicated website.

Depending on how a website is build the eBlocker Icon may not be shown in some cases. An absent eBlocker Icon is NOT and indicator eBlocker is not working. Please check out the knowledge base with "no icon" as there are various articles about this fact.

BTW: Your example and screenshot shows everything is working fine and eBlocker does it's job nicely (even the icon is absent).

Thanks a lot @radom!

I didn't saw the announcement of "Apple private relay".

You're are always an anchor for getting the right links in this forum. Always appreciate it!

Now it's clear to me.

However, just because I'm curious: have you opened the webpage I mentioned as well. Do you also not see the eBlocker symbol in your browser for this particular page! Would you do so and send a feedback please?

@bonycb I don't get the eBlocker Icon either:

grafik

But again: This is no reason to worry

Technical Background
Due to individual page design and the so called Content-Security-Policy (of the website) the eBlocker Icon may not be shown in some cases. This is because the request (of the eBlocker inserted JavaScript) to display the eBlocker Icon is not executed by the browser. In detail the website's CSP instructs the browser not to execute requests to other URLs but the website itself. This is normal and a know "glitch". Since the eBlocker is not depending on the Icon at all - but does his job on the network protocol level - you can simply ignore it.

If in doubt - check the blocker protocol - and this is looking good here 👍

@bonycb

Additionally, when you check the page source and scroll to the end of the source, you'll see the eblocker script is added in the source, which is why it is working without showing anything 🙂
