Important Update: We have cancelled the lecture described in this post due to discriminatory offenses. See here for more information.
As a non-profit project we have always managed to cover the operating costs, but we don’t have any budget to hire developers to implement new features faster. With eBlocker 3 we plan to implement many feature ideas of our community and fund their development costs solely with ” the crowd “…
At the beginning of April 2021, we’ve started an online course for the development of a crowdfunding campaign with from UE-Germany University in Hamburg. Together with 21 students from different fields – from communication design, video production to game development – we are now designing a campaign for eBlocker 3. Here we bring in our experience from two successful campaigns at Indiegogo and Kickstarter and the students their creativity and know-how in all areas of development: Concept, text, graphics and video. Working with this dedicated team is enormous fun and we are making great progress.
After first lectures about the dangers of personality profiles, the eBlocker technology and our history, we sharpened the target groups jointly, developed first ideas for addressing them and analyzed possible campaign platforms. The result: We will develop an international campaign on kickstarter.com, as we have already gained a lot of experience with this platform and our target group is easy to find there.
We are currently working in five different teams on the concept, initial video ideas and the communication strategy. After all, broad communication on various media to get many people excited about the campaign in advance is essential for the later success of the campaign.
In our experience, the original Kickstarter users unfortunately only contribute around 20% to the success – and we have to activate everyone else ourselves. Our biggest challenge is that the entire campaign is a no-budget project. In other words, we have no funds to advertise the campaign and are therefore solely dependent on word-of-mouth and “guerrilla marketing”.
