Hello,
can anyone confirm that deleting events older than one week does not work:
In my case, only the second option "Delete all" works.
@jogi good morning.
Trying to delete logs older than one week failed also in my eb.
I rebooted the eb and after this reboot I was able to delete logs older than one week directly.
Regards
@random I can sent you PSR and Diag Logs as I have this issue also on my test eb installation.
shall I sent it via mail?
Regards
@calimero Don't get me wrong but I feel this is the most minor issue (if reproducible) I have seen in years. Personally I don't want to spend time on it.
If you feel it's of importance, please share the issue via github with a clear way to reproduce. If there is no clear way to reproduce, I fear no one will touch this as we prioritize our time very well.
Why would one delete old system events anyway? I rather keep them for comparison in future...
THX!
No user is aware of how the thing works in the source code and which functions could be impacted... but as we had in the past the thing with the whitecube running out of emmc/sd memory because old logs wouldn't be deleted automatically it could be a possible problem for ALL.
And the part with reproducing is clearly enough in that case.. try to delete.. and you'll get it..
But this has to be analyzed by the support/programmers, not by the audience...
regards
Hello everyone, I am aware of how unimportant this function is.
I only noticed it by chance and I just wanted to point it out. I'll leave it up to the developers to decide what to do with it.
If there is a function, then you have to expect that someone will try it at some point and for whatever reason. As I said, it was a coincidence and it could also be down to me personally or my configuration that it doesn't work as expected.
I personally really like the blocker and I've been involved since Kickstarter. I thought the community thrives on such tips and I personally try to participate as much as I can. As a normal user, I often like to learn from other people's mistakes and if I do something wrong, please forgive me. From my point of view, a forum lives from this in a way. At least that's what I thought.
The blocker was developed for normal users and most normal users have no programming knowledge. For me and I think most others, it never goes deeper than the surface.
Unfortunately, I'm increasingly getting the impression that this forum has become a place for experts among themselves. If you have no knowledge of programming, you always feel out of place. It's really no fun to share anything here anymore.
Why Random is attacking Calimero like this again... I have no idea. Too bad.
Just my view of things
Unfortunately, I'm increasingly getting the impression that this forum has become a place for experts among themselves.
All users are very welcome and treated equally here. I honestly don't remember any "expert" conversation. I wish there were more experts involved - as I'm not a developer nor an expert either.
@jogi Which "expert" conversation do you refer to for example?
Why Random is attacking Calimero like this again...
Honestly, I just like to stay focused and don't jump over every stick someone is holding anymore. I'm a volunteer and have the free choice where I want to get involved and spend my free time with.
And yes, there might be some beef I'm having with @calimero in this regard as he is member in the inner supporter circle (that's why his name appears in green). I'm happy to make the background public: @Benne tried to get the three of us (@calimero & me) several times(!) into a meeting to discuss important open topics. I reserved my free (family!) time for this - unfortunately resulting in no answer of @calimero at all. Now - many month later - he is popping up out of the blue with the least important topic in years - asking for a deeper investigation and discussion. Honestly?🤔 Sorry, but I feel he's taking me on a ride - which is my cup of tea at all.
And to get back to the topic and facts: I tried to reproduce the issue and could not (see above). The feature works as expected for me - @calimero. And again: You are invited to spend your time on this and bring it to the developers attention if you feel like. Github is the right and only spot for this (as every supporter knows). And @calimero, as you might noticed: The log for users (event log) is very much different to the log that "went wild" for two users - among a couple of thousands.
THX!
Have you previously had events older than one week?
A sentence like: "If you feel it's of importance, please share the issue via github with a clear way to reproduce." does not help me as an end user.
I do not know GitHub (according to wikipedia: web-based hosting service for software development projects) and I am here in this forum for advice because I am not a developer.
I think developers will certainly pull all the things relevant to them from this forum on their own.
Every developer and unknown person in the background has my utmost respect.
Benne, Boris and all of them have put together a great project.
I am convinced of the eBlocker.
Important and less important problems are definitely cathegorized by them.
This issue - if it is one and nothing else I want to find out - is without question a very less important problem. Maybe I am not the only one with this phenomenon, maybe the problem is not or only very difficult to solve... I do not know, I will leave all that to the professionals.
However, I think it would be nice if private matters could also be clarified privately.
does not help me as an end user.
Sorry for the misunderstanding, but my "github" message was only(!) addressed to @calimeo - not to you! And I'm sure he got the message.
private matters could also be clarified privately.
I absolutely agree! That's why @Benne ask for my free time to schedule a private meeting with @calimero - which unfortunately never happened.
And I kindly remind you that it was you @jogi who raised the question about the tension, where I just wanted to openly clarify the case. No more no less.
Again, I'm very and sincerely sorry for the misunderstanding. When I address @xyz the message is meant for xyz - as much as this message is meant for you @jogi.
And @jogi, I'd be very happy if you could point to a thread where you felt there is "expert" talk happening. We (the supporters of this project) have a separate closed forum for expert talks.
Last: Of course I had plenty of events in the logs - but no recent events in this week, why I purposely added events by disconnecting the LAN cable. Sorry I this wasn't clear but maybe I'm lost in translation as I found the message to be very clear.
THX!
First of all, I would like to say that we appreciate all feedback and we are just as grateful to you as to any other user.
Every team member (including myself) works voluntarily in their free time, completely independently and self-determined. I am infinitely thankful for the great commitment, but I cannot and will not tell anyone what to do. We organize ourselves according to our skills, free time and interest in the respective topic - and I think it's going very well overall. 👍
Basically, there is a simple separation: @calimero takes care of the German forum - and nobody interferes with him. @random does the same with the official forum here - and I feel he does a great job as he has solved every problem with much patience and focus.
However, both are very different characters with a very different approach to solving problems. Unfortunately, due to the nature of their different approaches, there are occasionally tensions here. I try to moderate this, but I can't force anyone to have an exchange and I really regret that there has never been an open exchange between the two colleagues.
I am personally very sorry that you @jogi referred the tensions between the two to yourself probably due to a linguistic misunderstanding. You did everything right and reported a bug. It is obvious that this bug could not be reproduced by @random. Incidentally, I can't reproduce it either.
As mentioned above, I cannot control whether and who takes care of a bug. I respect @calimero's commitment very much, but at the same time I can also understand @random not wanting to spend time on this rather less important topic and referring @calimero as a professional supporter to github for addressing his point to the developers.
The fact that you @jogi took this the wrong way was certainly very unfortunate.By the way, I always like to use deepl.com so that no misunderstanding arises due to linguistic inaccuracy or incorrect choice of words.
I can only appeal to all parties involved to treat each other with respect and to focus cooperatively on our common cause. Therefore I invite all parties to proceed and ask for calm instead of disputes and to focus on the essentials instead of getting hung up on minor details.
We can only move forward together if we work together in a focused and cooperative manner. Thank you! 🙏
I discussed the described issue in the supporter meeting today. Unfortunately, none of us present could reproduce the issue: Everyone was able to successfully delete past events.
Without anyone being able to reproduce the problem, I fear it will be very difficult to find an improvement. Sorry.😥
Anyhow we leave this topic open/unsolved to encourage other users to report in case they experience a similar issue.
Thanks very much 👍
