Hello and good day,

first the info about the system
Eblocker OS 2.8.2
Raspberry 4I Model B (8 GB memory)
The Eblocker acts as a DHCP server
The doctor in EB did not indicate any relevant problems.

My computer
Laptop Windows 11 Pro with the latest updates.

I do not even know where to start.

I have accessed the dashboard and this also appears in the browser (tested with Chrome. Edge, Firefox, Opera) but then the page stops responding; every now and then the message Eblocker not available appears (see screenshot).

Screenshot of eBlocker Dashboard

What did I do to fix the problem ?
I have restarted the Eblocker.
The problem persists.

Then I shut down Eblocker; waited a few minutes and then turned it on again.

The problem persists.

Then I did a fresh install of Windows 11 Pro (clean install with formatting) and started Edge and then went to Dashboard.

The problem persists and the page (Dashboard) freezes.

I then stared my Windows 10 Pro machine.
There everything works fine with the dashboard.

Ergo, the problem seems to be related only to Windows 11 Pro ?!

What do the specialists say about it ?

Support is therefore requested.

Thanks !

@andreashamburg

can you do the following on both PCs:

type under Run (Ausführen): CMD and press Enter.

Now a command box appears, type in the command box the following:

ping 192.168.178.1

where change the 192.168.178.1 to the IP of your Router/Fritzbox.

A second command box with ping to the IP of your E-Blocker.

The questions now:

Do you lost the ping to the Router --> WLAN Problem???

Do you lost the ping to E-Blocker --> ???

On your Router you have disabled DHCP ???

Please try 😉

regards

PIO

Hello Pio,

thank you for your contribution.

The laptop is connected to the router via LAN and both ping are positive,

Ping1

Ping Eblocker

Ping2

Also I have cleared the DNS cache in Windows.

cmd-->ipconfig/flushdns

Result is that the dashboard still freezes

ok, do a ping 192.168.120.41 -t

Is the ping lost when Dashboard freezing?

So far everything is ok with the ping.

Ping3

And as I said; I formatted the SSD and installed fresh with Media Creation Tool from Microsoft Win 11 Pro

@andreashamburg

ok thanks,

no pakets lost to eblocker --> so network connectivity OK

eblocker reachable --> network OK

😐

on my test-eblocker and an Win10Pro PC I can get this message only when network from PC to eblocker is disturbed!

🤔

@andreashamburg From your description I conclude the issue is happening under your Win 11 install only. I'm on Win 10 and have no Win 11 access to verify, so I need to ask some questions:

Posted by: @andreashamburg

this also appears in the browser (tested with Chrome. Edge, Firefox, Opera) but then the page stops responding; every now and then the message Eblocker not available appears (see screenshot).

What exactly does this mean?

  • Are you 100% sure the issue happens in all browsers?
  • Do you have (briefly) access to the Dashboard if you reload the page (hitting the browser's reload button) or is this permanent even after a reload?
  • Does the grey message vanish after a while (giving you access to the Dashboard) if you leave the page open (and then turns back grey after a while again) - so like occasionally "on and off"?
  • Can you please share the hardware specs (especially processor & speed) of your Win 11 device?

Background: I suspect your Win 11 device has too less computation power. It's a known "issue" that the Dashboard turns occasionally "grey" if the browser can not execute the Dashboard's code fast enough.

THX!

I've run out of ideas, too.

Even with freshly installed Windows 11 Pro, the problem occurs.
Vlt. this problem also occurs because of an update of Windows.
The last update was on 15.12.2021

WindowsUpdate

Thanks but for your help @pio78

Thanks for your post @random
Yes the problem occurs in all browsers.

If I press the reload button then the page is reloaded but I can't make any selection there.

So no access to the menus inside the window!

You write my computer is too slow ?

I use Win 11 since the beginning of October 2021 and the Dashboard and Eblocker have worked in all browsers so far.

@random

In Windows 10 Pro at the end of September I got an info that my system was ready for Windows 11 Pro.

Microsoft's specifications state that my system would be fully compatible with Windows 11.

I have been running Win 11 for a little over two months and last night I went back to the dashboard and it worked.

I have not changed anything on my system since yesterday.

I'm sorry for repeating myself, I'm surprised that it doesn't work from one moment to the next.

No, I've asked you to please share your device's specifications and shared my suspicion.

AHA! This is a new information or I've missed it above.

So, with the same Win 11 device everything worked fine in the past?

When did this change?

Have you installed certain (background) software since?

What's the average CPU load if you open the Win Task Manager (CTL-ALT-DEL) while the Dashboard is open? (Screenshot of task list would be helpful)

THX!

The CPU load goes to 100% when I call the dashboard.
Yesterday everything was still working.
I do not understand this 🙁

@andreashamburg Well, with 100% CPU usage - this "freeze" is a normal behavior. It's as simple as "not enough CPU power = no Dashboard".

I'd recommend to get a faster device or find out what else is causing the high load. But honestly, with 1.2 GHz on an i3 CPU it's pretty brave to run any modern OS...🐌

Nevertheless, eBlockerOS has not changed and is not causing your "freeze". So I consider this topic solved.

However, nothing has changed in my system.

Yesterday everything still worked !
In boost mode the CPU reaches 3.4 Ghz.

I write here not because I have boredom

Sure! Must be the weather then that drives your 1.2 GHz i3 CPU 100% crazy today 😉 😆

Seriously, please direct your questions regarding the changing CPU load of your Win 11 poor CPU device to some Windows forum. This is beyond our forum's scope.

eBlockerOS's Dashboard just runs fine on any decently powered CPU. Sorry, but we can not support such a low performance device.

BTW: I'd suggest to use a regular CPU performance device using eBlocker's Remote Dashboard feature to configure your low CPU performance device. eBlocker protection takes place on network level, so even your mini PC get's full protection anyway 😉

THX!

@pio78 No worries, mate. You are doing great and I appreciate your help very much!

I only got a few years more experience in supporting eBlocker 😉 and the cause „100% CPU usage on low tech PC“ was pretty obvious at first sight… my old SmartTV shows the same behavior.🐌😁

Nevertheless, maybe a hint for our development to look into optimizing Dashboard performance usage, even there is a simple work-around with Remote Dashboards already.🤔

THX!
