@grmon Is your eBlocker getting daily updates at all? Please check date of last filter update.

Maybe your commercial eBlocker license has expired and you have not yet switched to the open source license?

In any case you can‘t go wrong if you activate the open source license again: settings>license&update>activate new license

since April 1st this year my eBlocker simply refuses to take any updates neither manual, nor automatic.

Of course, I already referred to this topic ( https://eblocker.org/community/postid/3768/), unfortuantely none of the suggested proposals to solve the problems led to success.

License Type (so far) : eBlocker Family

Any advice for me !?

Have you also tried to set eBlocker to automatically update? Then it should update to 2.6.x during the night...

automatic updates have been and are activated. 

@steffko_org I've joined your topic to this thread as diagnosis is the same (and maybe the cause as well).

@steffko_org @grmon It seems that an older update didn't work fully and your eBlocker is in some "undefined" state. Could you please take a diagnostic report (settings>system>diagnostics). We only need to look at the "install-eblocker-update.log" which is part of the gzip file. Please share this logfile here or (if you are unable to unzip) share the report via support at eblocker.org (as the full gzip-file might contain sensitive browsing data).

Find included the desired file, I had to change it to .txt, otherwise it would have been refused by the system.

@grmon @steffko Thanks - also for mentioning .log files upload issue. This has been fixed and .log files can be uploaded now.

It seems that the system is in an inconsistent state because the eBlocker crashed during a previous update.

It's possible to go back to 2.4 (since it's on its own partition) and re-write the upgrade to 2.5. After that you can update to the latest version 2.6.

The downside is that some configuration changes you made since 2.4 might be lost. And the process is a bit of work (~ 1 hour).

Prerequisites:

* The white cube must be opened and the M2+ board must be removed from case
* You need to be able to write a micro SD card on your computer

How to go back to 2.4:

* Download a backup from the eBlocker settings: System / Reset / Save Settings.
* Download balenaEtcher from https://www.balena.io/etcher/
* Download image https://eblocker.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/Back-to-eBlockerOS_2.4-m2plus.img.gz
* Flash the image to a micro SD card using balenaEtcher.
* Shut down the eBlocker.
* Remove power supply.
* Insert micro SD card and power up.
* After booting the red power LED should blink for about 5 seconds in a heart-beat rhythm.
* eBlocker shuts down automatically.
* Remove power supply.
* Remove SD card.
* Power up the eBlocker.
* Go to eBlocker's settings and make sure it is on version 2.4.10 again.
* Note that eBlocker's IP address might have changed.

Upgrade to latest version:

* Upgrade the eBlocker to 2.5. This might take a while, because the 2.5 image is downloaded and written to disk.
* Update the eBlocker to 2.6.
* Now you can restore some of the settings from the backup at System / Reset / Restore Settings.

Licenses:

* If eBlocker complains that your license is invalid you can always reset it at Settings / System / Reset / Reset Activation.
* You can re-register with FAMLFT-OPENSOURCE and your e-mail address.

@randomHi, no, I was talking about my User-Account "Steffko", coul not log on for a while and set up "Steffko_org" to gain access again.

Now, all is good again ! ;o)

Well, looks like that in the end that backing up the system and installing Version 2.6 with the complete image would be the and the much easier way do to instead of a roll back to 2.4 !?

This would only require to restore the settings and you are good to go again...

Or is there any other reason that I probably missed to do the solution the way proposed by you ?

@bpr That's rather complicated. Is there a tutorial or anything to respect when opening the cube?

@grmon Just press (firmly!) the right & left sides of the bottom case - and lift top case at the same time.

Yes, you could write the 2.6 image for the M2+ on an SD card and boot from that.

But in that case you lose the settings that can currently not be backed up in 2.6, for example the HTTPS certificate. (Of course, the certificate would only be available if it has been in the 2.4 installation already.)

If you do a complete new setup you might also think about investing in a Raspberry Pi 4 with at least 2 GB RAM. This would be more future-proof and much faster. After all, the M2+ is five years old...

@steffko did you succeed with the manual update to 2.6? what settings did you lose? 

@bpr is it possible to fit a newer banana board in the cube?

I have been quite busy with my new HP Z8 G4 Workstation lately, that is the reason for my delay in answering.

Yes, thank you guys for giving me a helping hand with my issue, this was already solved in the meantime:

- My dear "Whitey" is up and running again ! ;o))

Firstly, I backed up my system, installed the latest image on a SD-Card and booted my Cube.

Then, after the Cube was accessible again, I restored the settings just after the initial setup.

Only minor changes had to be done, e.g. import the new certificate into the OSes of my systems,

but as this would also happen if I had to renew  the certificate during the normal lifetime of the system, I did not care too much about it.

Interesting to find out that the all the users I had built up were gone, other setting like trusted websites etc. were working fine after Restore.

And yes, the Cube might be quite old in the meantime but it still works and I am very nostalgic about it since I was one of the first backers even with the first release of eBlocker OS in the past...

I do really hope that support will not be cancelled as "it was built to last" and still there are features missing that were announced during the Kickstarter campaign as future features back then..

Lucky you. I am still stuck with 2.4.8 did you just etch the latest image in the sd? I did that as well but the Eblocker is not booting with that. No luck with rolling back to 2.4 either… any help would be appreciated since I am also quite nostalgic about the whitey, even though I didn’t have the money to fund it from the beginning and am also hoping it will last.

somehow managed to downgrade to 2.4 via microSD and upgrade to 2.5.6 via web interface. Now I am stuck at license activation with the key FAMLFT-OPENSOURCE and the error:

@grmon Please try to clear the browser cache as „adminconsole“ errors are mostly from cache. Otherwise please post screenshot of error to be more clear whats going on.

EDIT: After a time-out I had to reactivate and am waiting for an update right now.

Seems like I'm on 2.6.2 now with all of my settings. And boy, does the interface seem fast. Thanks for all he help! Keep it up!
