Hello

Hope my issue doesn't get boring for you after so many years. I had the problem some years ago and got it solved with your help, but I have no idea today how I did it.

I have been running eBlocker on a Rhasberry 4 for years now. Today I first tried to activate the "Consent- and Cookie-Tracking blocker" you described in your last newsletter, but could not find the item. Then I got the impression that the device seemed not to update anymore; then I found out, as years ago, that again there was an exclamation mark after HTTPS-filtering. I checked the certificates, they were all there (Windows 11 and Firefox). I tried to reinstall them downloading a new version, but that did not help.

So I did a complete new installation of eBlocker on my Rhasberry, re-did the certificate installation after deleting all the last ones, but the HTTPS-test still failes, and the exclamation mark stays there (see my screensho attached).

Do you have an idea what goes wrong, and what I can do to get eBlocker fully functional again?

Thanks for help and kind regards
Winfried

@winfried Thanks for your post.

Please wait a few minutes(!) so the Function Test can finish. If the exclamation mark does still not disappear, then

  1. please make sure eblocker.org is not on the HTTPS white list: Go to Settings > HTTPS > Trusted Websites > type "eblocker" in the search field. If eblocker.org appears, then the domain is on the whitelist and the test will always fail.
  2. check if the eBlocker icon appears on other(!) websites, that are not on the whitelist.
  3. check if other(!) devices that are enabled for eBlocker HTTPS show the icon.
  4. check the Doctor in the device with the failing test (Settings > Doctorr)

Background: If the icon appears everything is just fine. There is no reason to worry. It might just be a temporary issue with the test.

If the issue persists please share screenshots of the check results mentioned above.

THX!

Hello again! Thanks for your quick reply!

Your suggestions don't have helped until now:

HTTPS exclamationmark

I deleted all eBlocker-entries in the https-whitelist. Now I get an error message (blocked by "eBlocker - My eBlocker - 2025/02/13") when I try to reach eblocker.org, unless I deactivate eBlocker as I do right now.

error message

The eBlocker icon never appears on any website I choose. All new https-sites are blocked until I enter them in the whitelist.

The eBlocker certificate certainly is installed, in the Firefox browser als in Windows, there both for the actual user as for the computer as such.

I hope you can find out what goes wrong! Perhaps an actual diagnostics report may help you?

Thanks in advance and kind regards
Winfried

Hello Winfried,

thank you for the diagnostics report. It seems OK. I could not see any HTTPS related errors.

Did you use the certificate wizard in the dashboard to install the certificate in Firefox?

It is important to set the checkbox "Trust this CA to identify websites" in Firefox (see screenshot). It is not enabled by default.

In the next screen, what is the result if you click the TEST button?

Best regards
Boris

Thanks a lot, Boris!

This was the solution. No more exclamation mark, only green checks.

It is really a pleasure to work with eBlocker!
Have a good time!
Kind regards,
Winfried

Hello, again!

Seems I was happy too early - today problems resume. All went fine, then I activated the "Consent & Cookie-Banner Blocker". Seemed to work as well.

Suddenly I could not adress my standard search page "startpage.com" anymore, nor any other HTTPS-URL, ending up with this (in German):

Then I discovered that the funktions test produced red exclamation marks for "Website Filtering (HTTP)", "Website Filtering (HTTPS)" and "Pattern Blocker"

grafik

"HTTPS-Support" as well as "Certificate present" are checked green though.

grafik

And Windows shows me the eBlocker certificate installed ok as well as in Firefox:

When I deactivate "HTTPS support" I can reach all websites as usual.

With HTTPS-support aktivated I also cannot insert sreenshots here, get "Error Unknown error" all the time, nor the attached diagnostics report. With HTTPS-Suzpport deactivated, this works fine.

[Redacted: diagnostic report removed]

Perhaps you have an additional idea what ist wrong?

Thanks in advance and kind regards,
Winfried

@winfried For Windows the (newly generated) certificate needs to be installed in the OS as well. 💡

I'd suggest to follow the Setup Instructions closely. Reading and following every word is key to success!

And btw: As written in the README FIRST, it's not a good idea to share the diagnostics report publicly as it might contain personal data. We'll advise you with sharing instructions if we need the the report... (which is not the case here, as this is a simple setup issue). I've removed the link to the report for this reason.

THX!

Thanks, Random, for the fast reply! And thanks for removing the diagnostics report when it is not necessary.

I now did re-install the newly downloaded certificate in Windows as well as in Firefox exactly as described in the certificate setup instruction.

Then I restarted Firefox. But the problem just prevails as described last night:

grafik

(And I still cannot attach files in this posting until I de-activate HTTPS-support in eBlocker.)

And calling up www.startpage.com (as an example) still produces this:

grafik

In English:

Page was not found.
The connection to the server www.startpage.com failed.
If you have entered the correct address, you can do the following:
- Try again later.
- Check your network connection.
- Check that Firefox has permission to access the Internet (you may be connected but behind a firewall).

With HTTPS-Support deactivated in eBlocker it works fine:

So what else?

Why did it work fine on Feb. 14 (see above), and then suddenly it did not anymore, without me changing anything in eBlocker installation (except for activating "Consent & Cookie-Banner Blocker")?

Thanks and kind regards

I just had the idea that a restart of my eBlocker Raspberry might help, so I switched it off and restarted it, and - surprise - it all looks ok again.

So, the problem seems solved.

Kind regards,
Winfried
