I operate an eBlocker that is connected via LAN cable with a Fritzbox 7690. Is it furthermore mandatory to run the DHCP server on eBlocker but no on Fritzbox? Or could I run meanwhile the DHCP server as well on Fritzbox without run in trouble?

I would like to provide internet access via WLAN to all members of my household basically via Fritzbox without eBlocker features. Only me myself is using eBlocker features particularly VPN access per iPhone and Mac. So I would like to have the entire setup for the „normal“ internet users on a single device, i.e. the Fritzbox except the special eBlocker features.

Client OS
Browser
eBlocker hardware
Client OS version
Browser version
eBlockerOS version

  1. I'm not aware of the 7690 in particular but personally I would always use the eBlocker DHCP to avoid issues. The DHCP server setup is btw. not related to your second question:
  2. To enable eBlocker just for a few devices in your home (and not touching any new devices) follow this:
    1. Open Settings> Devices> Tab Device Discovery. There disable the option "Automatic enabling of new devices"
    2. Under Settings> Devices disable all devices that need no eBlocker protection.

THX!

I have this settings set. But obviously nevertheless there are impacts of eBlocker on such disabled devices.

I have made the experience that some feature — e.g. ApplePay on iOS devices — doesn't work within my WLAN without regard whether a device is disabled or enabled for eBlocker.

Another odd behaviour I seen when higly protected Windows devices are being operated within my WLAN and connect thrue the WLAN via VPN with a remote network, i.e. with governmental networks or networks of international organisations. In such cases it has happened that suddenly only the this Windows device had internet access and all other devices have lost their internet connections and only could be re-established after physically disconnecting the eBlocker.

These oddities do not occur when the eBlocker is physically disconnected from the Fritzbox.

To my knowledge technically eBlockerOS sets the original router as gateway address for all disabled clients, when it's DHCP server is used. This means that disabled devices do not send any traffic to the eBlocker but rather straight to the Internet router.

Sorry, but even with 30 years in IT I have no idea, how eBlocker can "interfere" in this case. Honestly, I feel your described "impact" issues are completely unrelated to eBlockerOS.

But hey, there is always something new to learn. Feel free to open up a new topic i.e. "eBlockerOS interfering with disabled devices" to drill into this.

As an eBlocker pro, you already know how to help best: https://eblocker.org/community/announcements/before-posting-here-please-read/#post-117
