eBlockerOS 3.0.1: December, 20th 2023 #
This is a new major release which comes with IPv6 support (beta) and many enhancements under the hood. It’s highly recommended to update to this version as it comes with the latest security updates as well as new features and improvements.
All eBlockers with automatic daily updates enabled have already been updated automatically. All others can manually update eBlockerOS anytime.
Important for manual updates: The update may take 30 minutes or longer depending on your hardware. Your internet connection will be interrupted during this time. Please wait for the update to complete! An interrupted update can permanently damage the eBlocker.
Note: With this 3.0 release it’s no longer required to disable IPv6 on the router or client for eBlockerOS to function properly. Nevertheless, for enhanced privacy and improved compatibility with older devices it’s still recommended to disable IPv6 on the router or keep it disabled.
In case you have already disabled IPv6 on your router do not re-activate it. There is generally no advantage in enabling IPv6 and you are rather facing new issues!

eBlockerOS 3.0.x: Highlights & Changes #
- New IPv6 support (beta) – enabled by default. (Do not re-enable IPv6 on your router in case it’s deactivated already)
Please note the following:- We’ve implemented IPv6 support in all eBlocker core functions and tested these very well. Nevertheless, the IPv6 support is in beta still and there are known issues as well not yet implemented features (see below)
- There is a know issue using Device Cloaking in IPv6 networks. We are currently fixing the issue. Until the release of the fix you should refrain from using Device Cloaking
- In an IPv6 network make sure to use a VPN provider supporting IPv6 for IP anonymization. In case your VPN provider only supports IPv4 the IP anonymization will not work properly
- Using Tor in an IPv6 network is not recommend as especially Windows is sometimes leaking the real IP address under certain circumstances. For improved anonymity using Tor IPv6 should rather be disabled
- IPv6 Privacy-Extensions are disabled by default as this feature is causing known issues with the internal DNS. We are currently investigating this matter.
- eBlocker Mobile is using IPv4 to connect to your home network. This requires a public IPv4 address from your internet provider. IPv6 only internet providers are not yet supported
- We are aware that eBlocker is by-passed in very rare cases in IPv6 networks. The by-pass is usually for a very short period of time only (minutes) and it will recover automatically
- Probably there are unknown bugs and issues and some features might not work as expected yet. We are still improving IPv6 support and love hearing from you. In case you find a bug or are having issues please share it here
- New feature “last seen” under Settings>Devices. This shows when a device was active last in the network. Cudos to @blackaura
- New user interface texts in German switching from formal German (“Sie”) to informal German (“Du”). Cudos to @bpr & ChatGPT
- Improved display of the eBlocker icon. In case eBlocker HTTPS is enabled the eBlocker icon (to access the Control Bar) is now shown more reliably on all websites
- Improved eBlocker detects devices using private Wi-Fi addresses and sets the vendor of those to “Unknown (private MAC address)”
- Improved networking and firewall routing for IPv4 and IPv6
- Improved automatic testing with JUnit 5. Cudos to @tdq
- Fixed status LED in eBlocker White Cubes (in case the White Cube has a LED board installed)
- Fixed several minor bugs in the eBlocker backend (ie. YouTube adblocker or amazon.com overblocking, resulting in improved filter interpretation)
- Updated malware blocker list interpretation to handle IPv6 addresses correctly
- Updated all functions released as beta under eBlockerOS 2.x and removed beta status as they all run smoothly.
- Updated all Linux packages to the most recent versions for improved stability and security
